A very sad day for a remarkable E39

SAVE her. here's what i'd do.

you can buy an entire e39 body for around 10-15k.

spend another 10-15k transplanting everything...

in short, let the insurance right the car off, buy it back.

infact, you might end up with a chunk of change in your pocket.

HOWEVER. when you re-register it'd have to be as a rebuild.

I have a line on rear suspension components off of a 540 aswell as shocks and swaybar off of a 530d. but the stuff is in capetown.

I would also choose to save her. But the only issue is the case of buy-backs from insurance companies.. Most insurance companies don't let you buy-back your car on the spot, you have to go and bid on it at places like SMD, due to the lucrative nature of this in the past. This can be such a waste of time because it can take anything from 6 weeks to 6 months before the car goes on auction, then you go against other bidders for your own car (sheer sentiment might make you bid even higher than you should knowing the personal value and care you took in ownership).

I would personally look into legal advice with regards to not reporting this to the insurance company and fixing it privately. The taxi driver will not pay your excess amount or the total claim amount either way.. This option would work out to more than your excess, but you end up with a claim and higher insurance premiums, plus having her written off. This way you will be able to fix at a fraction of the cost that the insurance will quote and still keep your beloved 5'er.. Unless of course you prefer write off due to financial circumstance.

dont sign any papers tell the insurance you want to fix the car... if you sign papers the car does not belong to you anymore and you could loose it...

from the looks of things the car is at home this is a good thing because you are not paying storage fees while you sort it out with insurance...

I wouldnt stand for such nonsense...auctions etc... tune them. tune them they mustnt tune you because you dont want to be tuned, but rather you want to tune your car the way it was before the accident :roflol:

:nonono::nonono::nonono: What a sick thing to happen to that beauty! :nonono::nonono::nonono:

Those taxi f:argh:s cannot appreciate and respect human life let alone a beautiful car. F:argh:K them!

My E34 was crashed some time ago. Fortunately, I use a broker for insurance that I have been with for 15 years. All I did was tell them not to write the car off and let me buy it back. No hassle. They deposited the difference in my bank account within a week and I used it to repair the car.

Sometimes a good broker makes life so much easier than the big companies who don't have that personal touch.

Enquire about what can be done about buying back. I believe there are some really reasonable guys who could repair that car. And, mine was in a front smash, yet it was sorted and after doing the alignment, the car drove like it was never crashed.

Save that beauty!

I know this sounds heartless but perhaps the best course of action is to let her be written off, take your time & replace her with another:fencelook:

:thumbdo::cry::argh: im so sorry Flash... Honestly if you want to keep her, i would suggest you dont claim from your insurance and fix privately, or you repair the control arm etc and get her driving again, and only claim for the panel beating. im so sorry bud, i hope that you get her sorted.
