Only checking this now.. but the changing of exhaust can cause the car to smoke due to the fact that there is now less back pressure on the exhaust shaft which allows the oil to piss passed the seal.

It can happen that you take 2 of the same car and go do full exhaust. One will be fine and another will smoke.

The seals on my turbos went just after 100k. Did DP's about 20,000km before seals started failing and car started smoking. 1st the front turbo and 10k km later the back one. Cats sometimes are just hiding/masking the smoke. The seals would be on their way out, but not noticed until the car had less or no cats.

I know next to nothing about turbos, but are there any serviceable parts that would prolong the turbo life or is it a case of only being able to replace the whole turbo?

They can replace the core and wheels. Get billet cold side wheels. It works well for faster spooling and more boost....... They go for about R2700 each and the cores go for about R4500 each..

I paid just less than R8k/turbo on my n54 for OEM from BMW. I looked into upgrading cores but never felt 100% it was the best way to go. Would love to hear from people have?
