335i or 335d

Because a 335d will be far more expensive than 335i.. Just like How the 535d is 100k more than the 535i. You Will not zover that in fuel savings. Mod for mod the x35s are better and far more tuneable. Modified diesels sound terrible, and smoke a lot.. The petrols rumble. The feeling of torque is awesome, but the rev range is top short to overcome the petrol counterpart, especially when modified. The petrol Will also last a lot longer with our already poor fuel quality.. Living outaide of City areas seeing 50ppm fuel is scarce.

Actually haven't heard a modified 330d.. Only those seats and polls and they are loud but ugly sound..

286HP vs 306HP, there's a difference in power. The torque must make up for it.

I found this impressive info that someone else posted on another board:

BMW Car magazine results:

0-60:
335i - 5.6
335d - 5.6
mapped 335i - 5.2
mapped 335d - 5.3

0-100
335i - 13.6
335d - 13.3
mapped 335i - 11.7
mapped 335d - 11.9

I think its a tough call to make just off the bat...

I would spend some time with both the cars before making a final decision.

Can you really argue with the noise the 335i makes though....

Andy took a nice video of my diesel under a bridge last night, I will upload later today and you can hear the tuned diesels really do sound good

I pulled this off the net... Can only assume that it's ( super chipped - plug in- flash upload)
Isn't that what remap- mapped would mean?
Unfortunately, I'm no expert re software.

The diesel will have a faster feel with all that torque, but it will be over in a flash.

I like to be able to hold power a little bit longer, especially since I prefer manual over auto.

I would like the opportunity to drive a 335d (or even a 330d) and see if they can change my mind though. That 120d is already very impressive for what it is.

335i all the way, I drive a diesel and the torque is very cool, but when it comes to feeling like your really going faster and faster a 335i will kick any diesels ass.

The longer rev range of the petrol makes it a much faster car up top.

I have raced a 135i robot to robot with my tuned 330d and I have raced my buddies tuned 335i and robot to robot we pretty similar, but make it two robots or a run on the highway and I get smashed silly.

With regards to diesels sounding crap...I cant agree with that, I think you guys should have a listen to my 330d, all you hear is turbo awesomeness! A 4 cylinder diesel sounds horrible but a 6 cylinder diesel does not sound bad at all especially if you do some mods to the exhaust like a decat etc.

12 months ago I would have said a 335i sounds better, but with a nicely tuned freeflow exhaust a diesel has a much more aggressive, deeper growl to it. You have to be in the drivers seat to experience it.

Not taking anything away from the 335i - it is a very good car, but if it were a choice between the 2 cars, 335d without thinking twice. Just a pity it did not come to SA.

Lol.... What's that got to do with these 2 models being compared... I just wondered which would be more popular in SA if the diesel was introduced .
The diesel has even more torque than the M
