Hi Guys,

So going into pension have done about everything to my baby, going from complete gearbox overhall ZF, new transfer case mounting, new propshat, new oil filter housing and all the parts when you strip that down incl swirl flaps etc etc ........

Now on idle I get this weird sound "not clunking or metallic" but like something is rubbing up against something, you sit in the car and turn the steering wheel sllightly to the left the sound dissapears, bring it back to the middle "noise is back" ............... I have been getting that triangular warning sign pointing toward the steering to be checked out by BMW on the iDrive screen but it is so quick when going into "vechile status" and faults ......... its gone?

I saw something relating to a "bush" on the rack that given the age and mielage of my car this could be the problem, as said its been checked by so many of the guys that have done this work for me, I get told that it could be plastic or something rubbing against something however would be like looking for a "needle in a haystack" its just irritating me to no end ................

Any thinking on this would be apprciated or if someone has had similar

Iirc, the steering shaft goes through a rubber in the fire wall. Is it not rubbing against the rubber? The bush in the rack is a common failure. Are you still in Saldanha or there abouts?
