Hey Guys

Please don't want to start a oil thread war.

Just want to know what oil you guys use in your E46 330i?

Manual says 5w30 or 5w40. Currently using Castrol Magnatec Professional 5w30 and car has 167k km on the clock.Haven't added a single drop of oil since last service a year ago and still on mark.

Lifter noise for 3secs on startup (after that pretty smooth) and considering to change to different oil if it helps startup.

I recently serviced my 330i using Shell Helix Ultra 5w40.

No lifter noise on start up, but then again I never had that issue even before the oil change.

Happy new year guys!

I have always liked the shell helix products and used it on all my previous cars. This one has Castrol label on the oil cap so thought I should stick to Castrol.

I am reading alot of people recommending Liqui Moly but that name is new to me.

I use Luqui Moly 4100 5w 40 and have plenty customers on the same with no complaints :)

5w 40 is better unless the car does very short distances and never gets driven hard for extended periods

I have my driving hard moments :fencelook:

Not really long distances daily, work is 5km away, so minimum 10km per day.

I agree. Haven't heard any good reviews regarding EDGE.

My dad used in his BMW E28 535i (Modified) and had poor results. Noisy motor and the oil looks like water.

Whichever oil you decide to use, the best advice is to use shorter oil change intervals than the normal BMW servicing schedule - so 10k km or at least once a year (whichever comes first)!!

depending on how often you drive hard it might be worth your while to go 5w 30 with those short trips

half way oil change is highly recommended because you will have alot of fuel getting into the oil from the short trips this should be evident by the dipstick smelling like petrol
