Kev (KPM3_30) recently got in touch to book his E46 330i in for a service. He also wanted to replace the bonnet gas struts and upgrade the air filter to a BMC performance unit, so we agreed on a date and got it sorted today.
Kev brought along all the parts and consumables, including:
✅ OEM Oil Filter
✅ New sump drain bolt
✅ Engine Oil
✅ 2x Bonnet Gas Struts
✅ BMC Performance Air Filter
After taking a moment to admire the super clean 330i, we began by fitting protective covers to the driver’s seat, steering wheel and footwell. Then the car was moved onto the lift and we got to work.
🔧 Bonnet Gas Struts – The old struts were removed and replaced with new units, instantly solving the saggy bonnet issue.
🛢️ Oil Service – The car was raised, old oil drained, new sump bolt and washer installed, and a fresh OEM oil filter fitted after thoroughly cleaning the housing and cap.
🧴 New oil was poured in (Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 – Kev’s choice).
🌬️ Air Filter Upgrade – The old air filter was removed, the airbox cleaned with compressed air, and the new BMC filter installed for improved breathing.
🚿 Windscreen Washer – An effervescent washer tablet was added for a clean and streak-free windscreen.
🧼 Finishing Touches – Engine bay was wiped down and treated with Sheen silicone dressing for a refreshed look.
Once the work was done, we placed the leftover oil in the boot for future use or top-ups. Kev came through, collected his car, and left happy – job done ✅
