To give you a little bit of background on my wife's car.
It was bought in 2002 with 30 000km from Auto Alpina in Boksburg.
I paid R360 000 for the car and it was the best money I have spent having enjoyed 205 000trouble free kms. The car gets oil serviced every 7 000km with synthetic oil and has the rest done as per BMW service intervals.
Last year one of teh head gaskets decided to give up through old age as the car did not overheat but it seems to have blown a gasket and it was mixing oil in the water without overheating.
It is my intention to do the head work as well as new cam chains and guides.
I shall equally take the gearbox valve body to ZF for them to give it an overhaul as the car lately started holding gears on the odd occasion.
If anyone has any input in that regard or anything else I would be gratefull to hear from you.
My intention is to post pics of the work undertaken so that I may have the communities input as I go along.
Please remember that my intention is to re build the motor to "standard spec" with the exception of an M60 inlet manifold for 2 reasons.
1 I need a reliable car that goes and goes
2 I do not have the funds available to over capitalise on what to all intents is a slow(although at the coast it does "chirp" the rears) heavy gas thirsty family transporter.
Front bumper removed. If anyone wants to know how please ask.
Radiator removed along with a few other things
Engine harness disconnected from control boxes. That is a most simple procedure as everything is either plug specific or terminal specific so you cannot go wrong in just unplugging things.
I love the way that BMW have constructed the e38 it is as strong as a Bull and here gents I am not reffering to the Blue Bulls.
I removed the fuel rail from the Injectors as it is a lot easier to do then to remove the injector plugs first and then remove the fuel rail with the injectors attached.
Please also let me record that I have a 4 car garage which has 3 cars in it and the rest of the space is filled with what my wife calls "junk".
So the stripping was undertaken in my driveway much to my neighbours annoyance as my driveway often looks like " pearl harbour "
