I have really taken my time in examining the engine whilst stripping it as it is my first time and I am not familiar with it on a hands on basis.
A few questions come to mind:
Here is a close up of Right Bank cylinder 3 and 4
The front of the engine has the water galleries open and the gasket is the same shape.
From cylinder 2 to cylinder 4 the galleries are closed with little holes only and the rear most galleries are blanked off on the gasket but not the head or the block.
Here is a pic of the head where you can clearly see the shape of the water galleries
here is one of the gasket
I have not been able to establish the thinking behind that design any thoughts?
This is what the head looked like whilst on.
I stripped the right head and cleaned it so that it gets ready for the engineers.
By stripping myself I get to see what is going on and the condition of the components so that I am in a position to discuss things with the engineers as opposed to hearing stories.
This is what the head looked like (RBH)
Valves out.
These are the inlet valves
Exhaust valves
Comparison between an S38(e34M5) exhaust valve and the M62TU exhaust valve(s38 on right M62 on left) The S38 valve is 1,5mm larger in diameter.
Valve springs cleaned and marked.
I shall do the assembly of the head once the machine work has been done as I have a particular order by which I do things.
A few pics of the head after it was cleaned with much love and ZEB oven cleaner
These are a few pics of my very expensive watch which I only wear whilst working on expensive engines.
I guess its delicate and very expensive Chinese mechanism gave up the ghost when it met ZEB
