On street tyres Rowen's car did 13.1 @ 187 at ODI. All it has is software & the boost is only 0.2 more than stock. Anyone hear of a 1M that ran quicker?

Did he do these times on pump fuel (95 0ctane) or racing fuel?

That's a very good time. Can easily cut a second off that with one or two minor changes though

thats a bad time cos stock it should run +-13.0s :idea:

But that's at sea level right? ODI is up here at the Reef.

Not sure how much altitude affects the Turbo'd 1M compared to NA cars, but I'm sure it has a small negative effect?

Ok but I think in the whole of South Africa, there hasn't been a single manual N54 to run 13.0 on street tyres. The record for a manual is also held by us with Avashen who ran 12.7 with slicks at sea-level.

I always find it interesting that we make a distintion for QM records based on whether the car had slicks, its transmission box or whether it was stock or had a tune LSD. Non of these things is the "record". Its your fastest time that makes history. The condition or mods on the car at the time of the run makes only nice anecdotal evidence but its not the record.

There are "golfs" with bmw engines that run 8 sec QM. It will be recorded that a "golf" ran that time even if it was only its shell that ran in the race...(this is point not the truth...)

Interesting...:=):

No you right, there's no "official" record for different transmissions/tyres. It's unofficial for anyone in the know that knows that an auto is different to an auto for drag racing. With the torque converter you can build boost on the line. I think in the dragtimes top 10 they are all auto's except for Shivs.

Also well slicks make a big difference. So it isn't a proper comparison. nice to know what a car driven from home to the track with pump fuel & street tyres runs. Just for information, not for official record purposes. We will be running the same car with slicks at the next event so I expect the 60ft of 2.3 to improve.

my stock 135i ran 13.4s & with bmw perf pack 13.0s with r/f tyres so 1M with more power should be quicker :=):

Yeah we have 135's running 12.5 there on street tyres so that record belongs to us for the 135, but those are all auto's.

Ok I still don't think everyone is getting what I'm saying. WE have the fastest G6 Gti in the country which runs 12.2 at Tarlton. We have a manual seat & G6 with the same power & with the same slicks they run best of 13.4 at Tarlton. 1 second slower with the same tyres and same power.

DSG/DCT/Auto is a huge advantage when a car makes big torque. Your 13.0 will have been with a 1.9 60ft. This car runs 2.3-2.5. It loses half a second in the 1st 18 metres. if it runs a 1.9 60 foot it should run mid 12's. But with a manual it's almost im possible to dip under 2.1.

1M is manual with no launch control Tom.

Exactly, the Seat mentioned is mine. In test runs against the G6 and the owners previous G5, in gear acceleration is the same between the dsg and Manual, howver in gear change the DSG is much quicker, about 1/5 a car length between each gear change.

So a rolling 2nd gear run (without the advantage od a better launch) the dsg and manual with the same power will be even until the first gear change, from 2nd to 6th, the dsg opens a gap of about 2/3 car lengths.

On launch the DSG alos has the advantage of launch control which the manual does not have.
