Crash's Jezebel gets a checkup

As most of you know Jezebel has been through an extensive rebuild in the recent past. Crash has been complaining that she has recently become incontinent and has been consuming excessive amounts of oil.

A cursory examination and drive indicated leaks from the cylinder head, specifically tappet cover and Vanos.

The condition of the rubber grommets was poor which indicates that the tappet cover will leak.

The tappet cover was removed. Unfortunately a1exander is still mastering the art of photography. To think that he had the audacity to comment on the ability of both Crash and Burgy to take in focus pictures.

The exhaust cam was discovered to be overly advanced.

Here is Burgy after having consumed half of KFC’s kitchen.

Vanos unit was removed to ascertain the condition of vanos seals and exhaust hub tabs. As can be seen, the exhaust hub tabs are still in good condition; that just saved Crash R1 387 900.99.

There is more to come.

Firstly, I would like to thank Lysis (Alex) and A1exander (Peter) for coming out to help me with this issue. These two gentleman went beyond the call of duty to help me here. True Fanatics. Thank you once again for helping me out.

Now...
I am very displeased with the previous workshops work. The way they put this engine back together is nothing short of disrespect for a customer's car.

Very unprofessional. Why re-use a metal gasket and crush washers that need to be replaced. They used Gasket Sealer to seal up the leaks but that only held out for four months.

Very annoyed.

I'll let A1exander and Lysis tell more...

The floor is yours chaps.

Crash, what workshop is that?

That is the 'Crash's Garage' workshop  I made a special house call as the oil leak was quite severe and it wouldn't have been prudent to drive the car to my workshop.

Yes. This is my awesome Garage Workshop... ha ha.

As Lysis said, the car was just pissing oil.

So bad, that I forgot to mention a week or so back, I took a corner at a reasonable speed and the back end just slid out. Took a look and the rear left tyre hit some oil from under the car.

So bad, that I did an oil replacement of 7 litres 2 weeks ago, by last week Thursday the car was bone dry. That's ten days before the car was empty.

The Vanos uses high pressurized oil to work, and every time it wants to activate, it just shoots the oil straight out. You can actually see the spray pattern all over the engine bay. Its not dripping or slowly bleeding, the oil is hitting the top of the Hood and across to where the water bottle for the windscreen cleaner is.

There are some other issues which we have chosen to hold back on reporting till we get a better idea about it. Will update tomorrow with pics. Having another gentleman come over with Lysis to fix this "little" issue.

The oil leek was so bad, that you can literally see a trail from the entrance of my gate into the garage where I park Jezebel. There is a definitive line that follows the car to and from the garage.

A small update to tide everybody over until Crash's 'small' issue is sorted.

Here we have the sealing plate which sits on top of the Vanos valve body. The previous workshop had used silicone to 'seal' this and it had begun to clog up the rubber o-rings. Notice that the o-rings are genuine BMW seals and here we can see clearly that they have deteriorated and will need to be replaced.

This is the valve body which will be checked to make sure it functions properly.
