And while you there you may as well do a cambelt service and waterpump etc, makes life easier seeing as you in the vicinity.

What would a cambelt service entail since the S38 does not have a cambelt?

Lol, play nice.

Haha no Im genuinely interested. Im sure he means a cam chain service, but as far as I know, there aren't any serviceable items on the cam chain system...I could be wrong tho. Chain guides can wear, but I dont think this is an issue with S38s

Hi gents, just refitted my loom and connected up some of the loose ends. Picked up a couple gremlins.
Seems like constant power to window switches and boot light. I imagine it's going to be something silly. I did pick up that the cables going to the boot were 41 on the old loom vs 45 on the new loom.

I got the following to work...
Central locking and alarm
Electric windows for 3 windows (I suspect this was due to the break in)
Rear lights all working
Electric seats

Need to sort out
Sound system
Sunroof
Figure out where all the bits go
And the start with restore

Update please

Hi buddy, nothing changed really. The gremlins are still present. I just installed the carpet and front seats. Might only get further attention in Jan.

I also  need a battery but dont want to buy new as I'm not sure how long the restore will take.

Hi guys, compliments of the season.

I need to get some parts for the M5. Just need some advice; do I source from BMW or Goldwagen and the likes?

Source of my leak is front rank seal. Lip seal needed.
While all stripped, I'd like to replace;
Water pump
Thermostat
Cam/tapper cover gasket.

If anyone has any part numbers for direct equivalent, please post.

Thanks in advance.

I would always buy OEM, Ive found the prices from the dealers are very competitive with Goldwagen, especially with fanatics discount. You should probably get the valve clearances done while you've got the valve cover open...and while the front of the motor is stripped, Id install the E36 M3 chain tensioner...

I got the following prices from SMG Tygervalley

Front crank seal - R460 ex vat
Tappet cover gasket - R630 ex vat
Thermostat - R1166.55
Water pump - R5795.00 ex vat

Remember when you do the tappet cover gasket, there is the big one that goes around the sides and there are 3 smaller spark plug ones: part number 11121312173

Bolt on crank hub also needs replacement as its a stretch bolt.

Good luck torque 'ing it down while inside the car

Very nice, the M5 front grille badge is still available from BMW, think they around R800. Of if you want a used one, I have one
Thanks, that would be a nice addition. Came up with some job related issues and won't be able to spend on yje car now.

Just wanted to reassemble it so that all the parts are attacjed to it while making sure they all work.

New rooflining done along with backboard/speaker tray and front and rear posts.
Sunroof also working.

Next part of this process is a paint detail.

Not sure on the towbar, i think there is a spot for it behind the drivers side cover in the boot. Those covers look like wiring covers, I would guess on the passenger side in the boot (behind the carpets) or could also be from under the carpets in the passenger compartment/engine bay
