F30 Front Brake Pads

Hi guys,

Sorry to hijack the thread - I am in a similar situation, have to replace front brakes. Got a quote from BMW for R3.5k.
In your guys opinion, should I take it to a dealership to have it done, or at a local mechanic? Does the book need to be stamped or the work recorded by a dealership?

Yeah brake pads are easy to do yourself. I helped a guy at work do his fronts. Did it in the basement and took just under an hour.

It you have the 4-pot sport calipers like the M3 has then it’s even easier. It’s just 2 pins to remover and swap. I managed to do all 4 corners for a track day in 35 min including jacking up the car etc.

So after the dealers quoted me close to 5K just to replace the front pads, I made another plan.
Went to a tyre place in Durbanville. Got new Metteli (spelling may be wrong) pads, disks skimmed all for a few bucks shy of 3K.
In fact the one caliper was secured with only the top bolt. Saw it with my own eyes. So the previous replacement was really screwed up.
Just goes to show you can trust no one not even the professionals.
That was a few weeks ago and I have zero complaints.
Saw on facebook some ads for TRW pads. Next time. Spotted ads just too late.
