CSL
INLET CAMSHAFT 11317835041
EXHAUST CAMSHAFT 11317835043

Z4M
INLET CAMSHAFT 11317833223
EXHAUST CAMSHAFT 11317833225

as the main hardware differences are the cams and the intake...
the Z4M does not have these too I think its safe to say the Z4M does not have a CSL engine...

Does you engine look like this:

Does it have this air intake from the factory:

or this:

If you answer no to any of the following questions, then no, your car doesnt have the CSL motor and is on fact any other car than an e46 M3 CSL.

to be fair you can fit the intake to the z4m with a few small mods

Completely reprogramming the ECU to not work with a MAF is not what I would call a "small" mod.

its less invasive than changing cams , and that is considered par for the course
also when you do software "you are reprogramming" the ecu , and that takes like 1hr to do with any of the tuners on this forum

did the Z4M come with a CSL engine? no

It hardly matters what parts you can fit to make it into a CSL engine...

Engine is E46 M3, brake discs are CSL, although brake pads are the same as the Z3 M Coupe. There a few kws less in the Z4 M Coupe than the E46 M3, but the size and weight is less in the Z4 M Coupe, the exhaust system is restrictive on the Z4 M Coupe hence the lower kw, stand to be corrected but I think it is 250kw, and the M3 was a few higher.

you are all haters , i am going to buy a csl and fit a z4m engine
then i will have the best of both worlds

Didn't Burgy have the CSL intake on his M3? I remember it didn't work at all and the ECU was reprogrammed by a big tuner on the forum...

Dean ///M

Limited Profile
Has only CSL brakes and calipers not the suspension. Has E46 M3 cams, CSL cams are Stage 1 Schrick. But has the CSL block the material used is unique to the CSL engine. Stock mine made 300whp. No E46 that I know off even my previous SMG made that power on the same dyno. Exhaust is less restrictive with larger cats than the E46M aswell.

Retuning simply doesn't work.
Overseas the guys just go and buy the CSL ecu from the agents. I know this conversion rather well.

Sank and Dean///M have summed it up pretty well.

To answer the OP Z4M does not have a csl engine. Not even the ecu is the same.

Like what has been said it shares the getrag 6 speed across the range with the Z4 3.0i and various e90 cars as well, like sank said with a different bell housing. GS6-37BZ/DZ

Also afaik the final drives/diffs are the same ratio between the M3 and Z4M both being 3.62 but on realoem it shows as follows:

33107840534 Z4M
33102282481 M3

I don't think a stock Z4M will be faster than a stock E9x M3 but results will be influenced by drivers greatly.

For the exhaust the designs and diameters are very similar between the Z4M and E46M3

I've seen them both and the midsections containing the cats are virtually identical, the major difference is just the length aft of the car section leading to the backbox (boxes in Z4M)

They both have the same Xpipe between mid and back and are of epic quality.

They only differ in length and from what I've read the shorter system (Z4M) has slightly less scavenging effect and also produces slightly less torque compared to the M3.

Remember the engines are test bed fitted and power rated in house, not inside the cars. Engines are the same, ancillaries differ (gearbox diff ecu exhaust).

Hope this answers your questions.

:praise: seems like we have some real fanatics here .....

so its concluded .... the z4M does NOT have a CSL motor. different cams, ecu, exhaust and intake.

and it is also lower on power than the standard e46

but for some reason ... faster in a drag than the v8 e92 ..... dependent on driver?
