What a gem
Where did you find this?

I got quite lucky. I have had a reminder on Gumtree that sends me all the M Coupes for sale, it's been going for about a year. I was hoping for either an Estoril Blue or Titanium Silver ACS with under 70K on the clock.
This particular car was advertised with no photos or description, so it went virtually unnoticed (I actually only saw it just before it expired) with only about 12 views.

I called up the owner, great bloke and a car nut - he owns the Le Mans Mazda 767b that was at Top Gear, for those that went. I checked the VIN and history with BMW and pretty much did the deal over the phone.

I spotted a nice Estoril Blue M Coupe down the road from my house... so I went home and fetched mine for a few pics :joy:

It was good to see a comparison of the ride heights. Man I love Estoril Blue :inlove:

Couldn't find the owner, but it appears bone stock - except for S54 headlights and grill.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know the number of S50 M Coupes sold in SA?

There is the mystery of the 5 Mcoupes that are listed as SA cars but did not get the Schnitzer treatment. Look out for the grey backing to the dials, the dsc button on the console and the curved badge at the back. If it has those it may be an S54.

Flat badge, black dials and rear window demister button in the DSC spot. My guess is that it's had a front end smudge at some point and the later bits were added when repaired.

In relation to those 5 mystery S54 Coupes, I don't recall seeing an M Coupe rolling around (or in pics) in SA that has the Chrome Shadow roadstars, which would be the quickest thing to spot (of course, refurbs could mask the original finish).

I've seen mention of someone having a list of the VINs allocated to South Africa, has anyone run the list through the system to see what BMWSA info there is on them?

Nice one Scavenger!

Welcome to the club...I'm sure you loving the ACS!

I'm getting withdrawal symptoms, haven't had the chance to drive mine in 3 weeks.

Please upload more pics

I think this car was vinyl wrapped in grey. Was put into the wall at Killarney a few months ago...

What makes you think that?

Edit: Nope not this car. Never wrapped or taken to Killarney

Someone advertising an S50B32 M Coupe dressed with plenty (maybe even all) of the Schnitzer kit and later grill and lights, claiming that it's one of the 35 Schnitzer models - although the E36 engine, wrong badge and black dials are telling otherwise. Pretty cool car though.

:thumbdo: I hope no-one gets suckered into paying 220K for false advertising. I suppose that it could be an honest mistake. Seeing all the Kit and assuming it is one of the 35. Most people do not even know that the S54 was in an MCoupe. I even get funny looks from people in the know when I tell them I did not retro fit the S54.

Out of curiosity, what would you value that car as it is? I would say up to R200K if those are genuine Schnitzer wheels? I saw a clean S50 for sale for R210k in estoril blue with 58k on the clock, last month, not sure if he got that though - had CSL reps on it.

I've come across a few of these cars for sale and almost all of them were s50 but some claimed to be acs being 1999 and 2000 models fitted only with the acs trim and exhaust... is the only way to tell a fake apart from a dress up to check if it's running s54? Can BMW verify if it's a genuine acs if you have the VIN number?

You can tell if it's the later model in SA by the following:
Exterior:
The rear badge is curved not flat, it is located lower down on the bootlid (23mm from the bottom and 23mm right side of bootlid).
The front headlights have chrome rings and the kidney grill slats are chromed.
Schnitzer wheels and exhausts.
Sits lower on AC Schnitzer suspension.
E46 M3 Engine.

Interior:
Grey dials (not black)
DSC button in front of gear knob.
AC Schnitzer Short Shifter.
(Other AC Schnitzer interior kit (pedals, handbrake lever) was optional and not fitted to all of the ACS cars)

Most parts can be installed on the earlier model, so the engine, DSC and the dials are usually the only way to be certain.

That black one on Gumtree is definitely a Schnitzer one, but needs a bit spent on it to get it back to where it should be (wheels, rear badge, removing the vinyl and sorting out the paint finish).

Spot on Scavenger.

BMW would not be able to tell you. Fitting the ACS stuff was a dealer thing to get them off the floor. They were no cost extras. The MCoupe did not sell well. JSN Motors may have the records as I believe they did the fitment.

On this one the colour is also wrong, black, red, blue, silver and white are the only colours they came in... IIRC

Value on the S50 is really a bargain. 100K for 100K km, to 150K for sub 100K km. The 220K price on this one is clearly tied in the the S54 models. Possibly the correct price would be closer to 180K if it is really pristine and in tip top condition.

Just something to add, the update to the Kidney Grill and headlights happened in 2000 - so there are a number of the earlier E36 engined cars with the later headlights and grill.
