Hi,

I'm driving my 325 E90 MSport for the past 7 years delaying an upgrade because I wanted something "different".

Been test driving Mercs, Audis and Toyotas but keep coming back to my E90. The F30 wasn't never really an option because I saw it as another E90 but in a slightly different shell.

I've test driven a few F30 Sportline but the drive didn't leave me breathless which was the feeling I had when I first drove my e90. I wanted the e90 back then. Couldn't wait to take delivery. Could it be because I updraged from a Golf?

Anyway, I'm test driving the 328 F30 MSporty this week, and will probably purchase it but I hope it impresses me also.

Would love to hear from those who upgraded from an e90 to an F30 , and whether you're happy with the upgrade.

Positive and Negatice reviews welcomed

I have upgraded from an 325i E90 LCI to an F30 320d and if you take a 328i you will never look back. Its handling and the magic of that 8spd auto. I can say that my New 320d auto will leave my old e90 325i auto behind.

You have made the right choice

Had a '07 E90 Pre LCI 320i and then a '09 M-Sport LCI 320i.. Bought the F30 the second they came out and I have been loving the car.. My first diesel, my first auto. Mine has been troubled with some problems but BMW SA have sorted them out and now she is running like a charm again!

Fair enough mine with the non M-Sport suspension does not stick as well around the corners as my M-Sport did but then again the 320is were slow and with the diesel's torque I just love to take the car to the max to get the tail out.. But I can still outcorner most cars with twice my power due to the awesome balance the 3 series has always had..

I think with the F30 being my first daily turbo car (besides the F20 which arrived a week before the F30) and being faster than my prev 2 E90s is why I am very pleased..

It's been a love affair with this car, and I really will miss her when she is gone as with all my previous BMWs.. Each one is special, each one is awesome, and each one is my little piece of heaven while I am here to enjoy them :inlove:

My only word of advise is make sure you take the toys you want out of the factory, the stock sound is a bit dismal if you are used to high quality HK/Bose systems..

Ok

For what your going to pay for a new F30.

Go test drive an F10 535d, you should pick up a demo with 20k on the clock for what your going pay on the F30, so its the same price.

Then come and tell us if it takes your breath away.

When it comes to comfort, the F30 isnt much different to the E90. The car feels bigger, but once you drive it for a bit - it will feel the same and you will end up having the same confidence. Moving from the 325 to the 328 would be nice. The 328 has similar power to that of the 330's of old. However there is lag, so you will do well to get a chip asap. If you can stretch your budget go 335, you wont regret.

Also, if you doing auto -get the fappy paddle gear shift, its good fun!

Tak care...

Test drove the 328 today and was impressed with the look - interior and exterior. I really like the Sports Auto gearbox .

The refinement does take away the drive excitement and I am concerned that I'll get bored. Also, I expected the performance of the 328 to better a lot better than my 325, but the salesman mentioned that the vehicle still needs to be "driven in". Then again, the refinement could give the impression that the vehicle was slower.

With the small price difference I'm considering taking the 330d (335 to pricey)which I think will add some more excitement to the drive. What do you guys think? Worth the extra bucks?

Also, how "noisy" is the diesel?

That Diesel is strong, test drive it.

I'm fortunate enough to have the F30 335, the power and 6 cylinder sound is awesome. Spoke to a guy today with new 330d, he loves it. So my 2c, the F30 is an awesome vehicle whichever model you choose.

I suppose best thing is bum in seat and see what you like

I have moved from the E90 325 to the F30 328i. Absolutely love the power(before the recall). The only issue I have is that I had the E90 MSport and now the 328i Sportline (MSport was not released when I bought). I miss the Msport suspension. If you go 328i MSport, you wont regret it. Get the flappy pedals though. The 330d is just as awesome however I don't like the diesel lag on take-off. Hence I never owned a diesel.
E90 to F30 is a great upgrade.

328i and 330d are both awesome rides, but if i had a choice i would take the diesel, more power and better fuel consumption  335i would be the ultimate choice  Also consider what Leonard said above

Petrol not really an issue. The only reason why I'm considering the 330d is for the performance increase. Petrol saving is a bonus. Other than the lag on take off, are there any other negatives of the 330?

I went from a 2006 320d manual to an F30 320d auto about 3 months ago. I still have the E90 because I gave it to my wife, so I have the chance of driving both.

First impressions of the F30: the 8 speed auto box is fantastic (my first auto) and you get used to it so quickly that the first time I drove the E90 after a week I was always in the wrong gear. F30 steering is much lighter, but I had lower profile and wider tyres on the 90 which may affect the steering.

Much more torque of course and the fuel economy on cruise control is fabulous. I did a run from Johannesburg to Durban in September and got 4.2l/100km.

In short, it is much improved over the previous car, which was better than my E46, which was better than my E36... and of course my wife is loving the older 320d after driving a 1996 316i into the ground!
