Xenon Fitment

Hi Guys,

Has anybody fitted xenons on there e39's?

I want to fit xenons on my driving lights and fogs. What bulbs do they use and how easy is it to fit them on?

Once those are done, i want to lamin-x the headlights and fogs also. Dont want to lamin-x now as it would affect the lighting at night with the normal non-xenon lights.

Thanks.

Hi Mr. Arbee.

I also want to do this... please if you do it, post some pics. I'm doing some mechanical stuff to my car first before I spend money on cosmetics, but I wanna get the facelift lights and then the xenon kit. so please post some pics if you can, will be very nice to see.

Will do so.

I think the e39 lights are bad at night thats the main reason i want to do it.

PM zaa, he has done this conversion.

Also check out his thread about his 528i, there is something about it in there as well

Do you use relays or resistor packs for the "fault cancelling"?

This post is not meant to interfere with anyone's plans to fit xenon's. I fitted Osram Nightbreakers to the dips and brights on my 750il and they have made the lights much, much brighter- Osram claim 90% brighter- and I believe them. And they cost only R130 plus vat a pair at Diesel Electric. I wanted xenon's for the dips, but settled for the Nightbreakers.

IMHO the xenons are way way way brighter than osram nightbreakers

no need for opinion, it is fact  I mean they measure xenons compared to the temperature of the sun :)

Yeah, xenons own halogen any day! Did alot of conversions over the years, 2 were E39's. The aftermarket kits are the easiest to install, I install OEM BMW ballasts and bulbs which are more difficult to install. I have had ballasts fail within a year from aftermarket kits that autostyle sell, so stay away from the cheap makes...

One of the reasons I stayed away from doing the conversion is that I cannot tell the decent kits from the cr@p ones - hence I also decided to look at the OEM route, but cannot find any scrapyards with E39 xenons (at decent prices). Also, I'm still a bit sceptical about the beam focus issues by putting xenons into a standard halogen "optimised" projector.

Can you advise what to look for if I want to do this with OEM parts. I am fairly technically minded so don't mind doing a bit of DIY to get things to fit properly. However, how about shedding some light in terms of all the necessary components required. Don't mind gradually buying parts as I find them, at a reasonable cost.

BTW, here's my post on the DIY height adjustment - as you can see, I'm comfortable with taking my headlights apart already E39 DIY Headlight Fix
