Thanks, Also I think I forgot to mention this was from jhb to durban during winter. Car had a downpipe and bmw performance exhaust , no other mods.

I didnt use cruise control the whole way only about quarter of the trip, I just purchased the car that weekend so Had some spirited driving for most of the drive down to dbn and had a temporary plate.

But driving to work and back (2kms each way) I would usually get 12l/100kms ,thats only short distance and mostly pulling it in 1st and 2nd lol

Its generally the opposite for me. but then again it could be all the hills in Durbs.

Flip I must be doing something wrong:fencelook:

Average since I got car - 15.1l/100km
I reset journey computer after every fill up and sometimes I get 13.8 on a tank, other times I get 17.7l:nonono: And no I am not driving like a maniac.

I think quoting l/100km is not very useful on its own. Need to see average speed as well. My average speed is btw 25 km/h and 28 km/ hr. Sitting in traffic I can see the consumption increasing.

Good point. I will do another test again soon and post average speed pics as well

At that average speed I seriously doubt you are doing anything wrong. This just underlines a point i tried to make in another thread.

Someone was considering various models of BMW as options for buying. Some were large engined petrol BMW's. I then warned that anyone thinking they gnna get good consumption from a big petrol BMW, are kidding themselves. I got all sorts of responses downplaying what I was trying to say. I particularly said: "please don't post here about getting below 10 l/km from some big petrol BMW on the so called open road."

Reality is, most spend considerable time driving in traffic. And this is where the bigger petrol cars, any make, pay the price. and I asked to please not post misleading stuff to people saying it is "not so bad". Reality is, in traffic big engined pertol cars GUZZLE.

No getting away from that, ever.

Love x35 beemers for their power, I say. Thoughts about economy...pffff...just can them.

Everything is relative in life..........so with that, Vicus you are correct that big engine BMW's are not fuel efficient relative to the smaller engine cars and the diesels. I think it is safe to say that the X35 was not designed with fuel efficiency as a primary objective. However, as an X35 owner and driver I was curios as to what would be a good average to bench mark off with this car. Some good data was shared thanks to everyone's input. However I doubt that any of us X35 drivers have the patience or diligence to nurse these cars all the time as we love the in line 6 pot turbo/s naughty nature way too much

Myself and a couple of colleagues are doing that Discovery Insure driving challenge. One has a 335i and he is currently sitting at 92%, the highest in the office. I am at 48% :roflol: the lowest in the office. I often get 1 star ratings for my trips - harsh cornering, harsh acceleration, over speed limit, harsh braking :=):

How he constantly gets 5 stars I don't know. Told him he might as well have bought a Chevy Spark. It's like being married to a super model and all you do is hold her hand and give her a brotherly kiss on the cheek...
