X3 X Line vs M Sport

I am looking to get the newer model from my F25. Also to go for the 3.0d model. There is one at the moment which is an xline, which I haven't paid much attention to before. Is there a big difference between the xline and the m sport and does it influence resale value at all?

Also, is there anywhere else to really look for 2nd hand cars other than autotrader and cars.co.za?

Different bumpers, different grille, different steering wheel and more exposed plastic on the X line to give it a semblance of being
"rugged". My guess is that the M Sport would have more takers.

Are you looking at this one?

Pros - Comfort, clearance, underside protection, looks nicely specced
Cons - No sunroof, no sport seats

Depending on your use, the Xline will be better for exploring and any dirt roads etc. I think an MSport will sell for more, but not as much since the Xline is also quite rare and not like the more common base models.

If this is the one you looking at, I would recommend chatting to Lee Fourie in pre-owned sales. Genuine guy that I dealt with recently.

Thanks guys.

The one I am looking at at the moment is this one:

This one does have the sports seats (prob extra then), and I am not too phased with a sunroof as I never use it.

It is extremely difficult to get a 2nd hand 30d in the newer generation.

I think its a great buy at the price and you are right they are very rare in 30d. The G01 XLine's come with Sport seats as opposed to the F25.

This particular one looks like a base spec but that's because the previous owner wrapped the aluminium coloured exterior trims and grille in black. Will look more like an X line if removed. Also bonus that the entire car is wrapped (if done well). Original paint will be protected.

If you gonna be using the car in the rough a bit. Like i do, we take it to Kruger etc then rather go for non Msport. The high spec seats in my non M is very comfortable albeit not M sport seats.

This one that I am looking (in the link above) at currently has the 481 Sports seats as extra. I think any of those would be more comfortable than my current seats in the F25 :)

The only issue is that I can't physically see and feel the car before purchase due to location. I have driven a G01 30d before and it is night and day compared to my F25 20d ito luxury feel and performance

This car has been on the dealer floor since January (I know, because I was looking for a 30d before I decided to keep the Volvo). Worth checking if there is anything funny. The price is very good (for a 30d of that mileage), but it has been sitting too long....

Thanks yes. I did ask the question and apparently they had 10 to start with and this one is the last. I specifically asked about why they struggled to sell the car and that was the reply. Just hope I don't find something afterwards

I am also in the market to purchase a used X3 M Sport 20d. I did enquire about this particular vehicle. The car is actually brown in colour. Pervious owner wrapped the entire vehicle. I guess buyers don't want to take that risk.

Checked with a friend that works there and the dealership had the vehicle wrapped because it wasn't selling in original Brown. Was an ex BMW SA company car before dealership bought it.

MSport also ages better!

The difference for me (besides the exterior) is the seats! I’d take MSport seats anytime vs the non MSport seats.

I am very disappointed with SMG Ballito....

Last week Friday we made the deal and everything is in place. The vehicle will be sent to have the wrap removed on Monday morning. On Monday morning I got confirmation that the vehicle was sent and I told the sales person that I will travel down to KZN on Wednesday (I decided to add a few days as delivery is only Friday). The idea being that all must be more or less in order to prevent me from traveling unnecessarily. During Monday and Tuesday I ask a lot of questions to ensure all other aspects are fine, ie tyres, etc.

I struggled a bit to get accommodation due to the holidays and had to pay holiday fees but got it from Wed to Sat. Wednesday morning I travel from Jhb to KZN and check in around 14h00. At 16h00 I get a call from the sales person, he had a look at the car and the paint is badly damaged according to him. He stated that he will not be able to sell the car to me in that condition. Which I agree with as I don't want a car with faulty paint work. This check could've been done on Tuesday or even Monday to ensure I don't go through the expense of traveling to KZN. It is unknown to me if the wrap was done because of the damaged paintwork or if the paintwork is damaged due to the wrap.

This morning I traveled back to Jhb.

This was not a great experience and I don't get the feeling that he realises how inconvenient this was to travel for no reason in the end.

...so my search will continue to get a 30d with low mileage...

That is the thing, I asked the sales person... According to him the vehicle was traded in by a client with the wrap and they were in any case intending to remove the wrap as it isn't selling with the wrap. This was the official story when I questioned him. But I also know about the ad that were on Autotrader for a long time when it was still brown...

100%

I personally am not a big fan of the black plastic trim pieces on the normal model, I much prefer the painted pieces which come with the M-sport.
Looks more premium too compared to the ugly, textured black plastic which will fade after being in the sun.

@PearlJam That is poor on their side, but to me it seems quite normal for such service to be experienced.
You really need to wait to ensure all goes smoothly before committing. It is no inconvenience to the sales person, they didn't fork out the money to pay for flights and accommodation nor is it their time which was wasted.

Hope you find something soon!

Thanks. So we learn! I don't buy vehicles often and tend to trust people. But yes, I thought to myself afterwards that in the future the vehicle must be ready for collection before I travel if ever it is at such a distance again.

Salesman is a real idiot to lie about it.

That's horrible service and you should actually claim your expenses from them if possible. Really pathetic.

Removing wrap does damage paintwork.

What about getting them to wrap it in a color of your choice and request a further discount to accommodate your expenses for your travel.
