WTF is up with stealership pricing on brake bulbs?

So my tractor brake light bulb needed replacing & I pulled into the local stealership. 84 bucks for a brake light bulb!:yuck:

Am I the only one that thinks this is a rip off? I am sure the local Midas / Golfwagen would stock a more reasonably priced option...I guess it's the price u pay for not having the time to shop around.

I had to replace the bulb in my centre brake light earlier on this year. I think it was around R55.00 for the bulb, of which I got two and they only charged me R35.00 for both :lmoa: Must have been a mistake.

I also had to change the bulb housing/fitting as it had melted. I'm guessing the previous owner tried a cheap solution to some problem there.

Dunno about the lifespan being better. I replaced bulbs in my brake lights about 9 months ago with R20 cheapies from the BP garage and they have worked fine. Bought replacement bulbs,a whole set, from Midas for R40 for my 635 and they work perfectly. Don't ever ask the dealership for Xenon bulbs....on my RS4 Audi wanted R2200....A GLOBE!!! Got them for R400 each from a guy in Edenvale.

Think OEM is Osram,

I go for the cheapies they look and do exactly the same thing as the +R70 ones

got front oem bulbs from the stealers, about a year later they gave up, replaced them with cheapies from local spares shop, still going strong two years later:thumbs:

you guys crack me up,R55 is cheap

took the wifes navara to the dealer, and they phoned me to tell me the spot light is blown, now its a mission to get to it and takes about 2 hours to replace the bulb,so asked for a quote.
R250 bulb only,no labour and for one,not the complete spot just the bulb.

so bmw is actually a cheap car:biglol:

I usually buy the bulbs from a local spare shop for R5 each. Works perfect. Wifes yaris had a blown brake bulb. I was busy the last two weekends so she decided to take it to toyota to change. R84 as well. I was so angry with her. I couldn't believe the price. Now I am shocked to see you paid the same for a brake bulb. The stealers are crazy. :thumbdo:

Agents wanted R55 for an indicator bulb on my car. Bought a cheapo from Midas for R5 and still working fine after 3-4 months or so. Even if the OEM bulb does last longer, you can buy 11 cheap bulbs for the price of 1 OEM bulb:flyfun:

Oem is hella, phillips or osram bulbs. Sometimes cheapies last longer. Dome lights I removed from my F30 and replaced with T5 LED's imported from china and they work fine agents want like R300 for a set of 2. I got 15 of them for R100 canbus error free. If you go to middas you can buy a box of 10 brake light globes for like R50

@Bugger, what bulbs are those I have read Philips D1S xenon bulbs wholesale for 80$ each. And if your paying anything less that 90$ for a bulb its most likely fake? I've read there are LOADS of fake philips bulbs.

You think R55 is bad for a indicator bulb. Auric Auto wants R350+ for a silver indicator bulb, just one bulb. WTF I'm using R5 bulbs from midas at the moment and they work fine.

With my polo, I go to VW with a headlight out. R180 for the bulb. Then they want half an hours labor to fit it R380. Went to midas got an osram bulb for R60 replaced it myself in 3 mins. Saved R500.
