Jees dude, glad everyone is ok! Sorry about the car

Something similar almost happened to me once, some guy cut across the grass on the freeway so that he could change directions, there were a lot of bushes on the side and he just popped his nose out as I came past, had to swerve. People like this should have their license revoked indefinitely! :argh:

Matt, I'm glad to hear that you and Kerry are ok

It seems that when its raining in CPT, whatever driving sense people had before, just goes right out the window.

Wow, that car is a mess, im glad everyone is ok.

Could you possibly give us an idea of what its like having those airbags go off in that type of accident?

Did you kak yourself or was it fairly mild?

I have often looked at the airbag sign on my steering wheel and wondered what i would be in for it that little guy ever got called to action.

Hey everyone. Thanks for all the well wishes, etc.

@ Don: Thanks mate, Sorry we been so quiet. K and I been hectic with our new biltong shop but now its running on its own so must make a plan to have that braai. And yes, the ppl in this town forget how to drive when it rains!!

@ L-C-G: Bro, to be honest, it happens so fast you don't even have time to kak yourself. After the (very loud) impact, I cant really remember anything until we had stopped and I was checking to see my girlfriend in the passenger seat was okay. I think the airbags may temporarily knock you out...for a few seconds anyway. Its more the seat belts (thank God for those) that hurt and leave a few bruises. I do have a sore right calf from hitting the brakes hard and my hands hurt from gripping the wheel. (My newly beautifully reupholstered wheel!!! GRRR) The first thing my girlfriend said was thank heavens you drive German quality  My girlfriend has a bruised knee and a sore kneck from the whiplash.

So now I guess its time to shop around...I am looking for a more powerful car, def a six cyl but am unsure if I should stick with this shape or move to an e46. I used to drive the e46 but found it to be of a lesser build quality than the e36. But either way am thinking of a 320i or 323i...

Damn man. That is terrible. Poor E36. Glad everyone is ok.

Where was it? Coz I dont think there are many, if any, places around here that have a slow lane and a fast lane.

Happend on the N7 just after the N1 turnoff going towards Voortrekker rd. We were very fortunate that it happend after the barrier where its just grass in the middle!

If you are looking for safety I would say go E46 rather. The NCAP score on the E36 compared to newer cars is unsettling to say the least.

I would imagine the shock wave from the bags may actually stun you for a bit.

I actually looked at your steering and thought "Damn thats neat, wonder if he would consider selling it now?"

I honestly hope I never land in a situation like that because I will beat seven shades of crap out of the person responsible.

It really doesnt matter how well you drive, you cannot avoid everything and when it happens as fast is this did.......its out of your hands..............just be grateful that your car was up to the challenge.

The driver of that sentra is SO lucky that the hit was not half a meter further along the side. He would have been game over.

Glad everyone one is OK.

I try and avoid the roads when it rains and if I do go out I drive slow to give me enough time to stop if I ever have to, but other people on the road seem to drive even faster when it rains. And then to top it off, you get people who pull stunts like that. :shakehead:

Both lanes have the same speed limit there... :fencelook:

@ gcony18...let me re-phrase...what I mean by fast lane is the right lane...I am aware the speed limit is the same in both lanes.
