Sup guys, I see its quiet here as usual ;)

Any recommendations on what soap I can use in for my windscreen and headlight washers. (Xenon lights)

I always used sunlight liquid in my previous cars, but never had anything like xenons before.

Ok thanks

Just dont use Sunlight Liquid as it will strip your cars wax. :thumbdo:

I just use water... But the dealer does sell the proper stuff from the parts department. No idea on cost.

The dealer stuff smells like Archers, think it has some alcohol in it for quick drying. This however would strip wax.

485 dollah and we got a deal!

Yea remember it smelt like booze when I got the car. Plain water just streaks more than anything else.

Maybe I'll try the tablets, can I take them too ;)

p.s. why do xenon lights come with headlight washers?

Oooh, the tik people drunk on window cleaner! :fencelook: :roflol:

Have heard that you get some sort of window cleaner that also has some sort of lubricating property to help the blades glide more smoothly over the glass. Anyone know anything about this?

EU Legislation. :thumbdo:

MINI's are built in Oxford in the UK and exported to SA, USA etc which means they fall under the EU legislation.

This states that all vehicles with Xenons must have self levelers and spray jets.

The reason for this is because the Xenon Bulb unlike a standard Halogen emits a very standardised and direct beam of light. Dust on the lens or even dirt on the lens breaks this beam and causes the light to reflect into on-coming traffic etc. A bit like pointing a laser at a mirror, the beam reflects and heads in a different direction.

So the washers simply make sure the lens is clear when you use the wipers for the first time. If you are clever and have the patience, when pulling the lever only do it half way as the switch for the washers doesnt activate but the windscreen wipers do.

I use autoglym glass polish or just the normal autoglym radiant wax (3 in 3 months) depends how offen you clean your car... And then just the noraml car shampoo...
To get the windows clean without grease marks, i use newspaper and water w a bit of soap, this has never failed me...

Yes, you right. Its either an alcohol or methanol mix...both dry quickly. I cant imagine it affecting your paint or wax.

Hi

I use Holts windscreen wash, works reasonably good.

Cheers

No, No :nonono:

The Holts has a blue dye in it that stained paint on three of my cars, I was so cross when I saw it did that, I wanted to claim for damages.

Yes the BMW stuff is expensive but it works. there are two products from BMW, the intensive cleaner for headlamps and intensive wash (use neat) and the screen wash which I use a little bottle in a tank with the rest water and it works a treat, no streaks.

Interesting fact is if you put just plain water in the washer it's been linked to confirmed cases of legionairs disease which grows in the plain water :thumbdo:

Scary! Didn't know this! :fencelook:

Legionellosis

Transmission

Infection normally occurs after inhaling an aerosol (fine airborn particles) containing Legionella bacteria...

Potential sources of such contaminated water include cooling towers used in industrial cooling water systems as well as in large central air conditioning systems, evaporative coolers, nebulizers, humidifiers, whirlpools, hot water systems, showers, windshield washers, whirlpool spas, architectural fountains, room-air humidifiers, ice making machines, misting equipment, and similar disseminators that draw upon a public water supply
