Windscreen: BMW oem vs SABS approved replacement

Hi guys,

I had a chip on my windscreen & peocrastinated the repair resulting in a crack developing. I've opted to do it cash & not claim from my insurance.

As the subject reads I have a choice between OEM & SABS replacement part(National Auto glass Dbn). The cost of the OEM is almost double as compared to the replacement part.

Does anyone have experience with this, can give advice or indicate if there are any technical differences between the OEM & SABS replacement windscreen.

As long as it is not Benson garbage, it should be OK. I tried one of them before on another car - windscreen fitted was about the same as the excess on an OEM one. There is a VERY good reason for that it seems. That was also SABS approved (who they paid for that I don't know...). I would rather pay the excess and go OEM personally.

I would also bear the brunt of the cost and go OEM... the quality of the glass is far superior in terms of sandblasting...

If u still under motorplan and your windscreen is not sabs approved it can be a problem
And if it's rain sensor windscreen u have to put a rain sensor sabs approved one..

And also it depends which is more convenient
Sometyms best to pay that little excess and get the right thing

Fit an Original Windscreen , ask whoever is fitting it to order it from BMW and make sure its an original BMW screen fitted. I had this issue with my E46 once , where my insurance insisted on a shatterpruf screen , I said no and made sure that PG ordered and fitted me an original Pilkinton BMW screen with the logo from a BMW dealer :)

Yes lots of high way driving but I also drive on the high woth my 328i but do not the same problem. I think one needs to check woth the insurance if this is prevalent on their claims because it will mean something is not right somewhere
