Why M > AMG

Its been a while since I last posted here and in that time I went from the White Z4M Coupe to a White C63 AMG.

My time in the company of the 63 came two Thursdays ago and ended a rather brief stint as an AMG owner +/- 6 weeks.
It was a nice car- but just never caught my interest for very long.

I was driving home on a Wednesday afternoon and had this M5 stopped next to me at the Stop Street.
It was clear the 63 was never going to capture my attention the way the V10 had.

So the 63 is no more and a white M6 is now standing in my garage.
As such, for me anyway M > AMG.

Last Thursday was the first time since I got the car on Monday that I got to drive her.
My boet was up for some business, so we spent most of the evening in the company of the V10.

Initial Impressions- when I fetched her from the dealership:
- White is so the most impressive colour on this car.
Standing there next to another Grey M6, the White just pops, it shows the lines and creases so much better.
I'm sure you guys will concur but you only ever really start seeing a car for what it is when she is almost in your grasp.
The White paint work is spotless and set off perfectly against the Carbon Roof (drool).
I already had a set of 19" M6 wheels I got for the Z4, so i knew how massive they are but on the 6 they just suit the
squat rear stance perfectly.
The 4 gun barrel exhausts perfectly finish off the rear end.
Running down the sides of the car the M gills on the side are also an understated reminder of her pedigree.
The bonnet disappoints as there isnt the usual power dome as on the other big M cars.
Sliding into the leather sport seats, you just feel at home, everything falls to place as if you designed it yourself.
She has the optional carbon interior that just adds to the special feel.
I hit the start button and am a little disappointed as I always am in M cars, she just doesnt shake the ground the way
the 63 used to. I amble home at what seems like crawling speed through traffic- park her in the garage- get out and
just stare at her for a few minutes. I know then, that I am a seriously lucky Bastard.

A bit of a joy ride:
- Probably the one thing that surprised us most during our jaunt, was just how absolutely comfortable she is.
The jaw breaking ride of the 63 a distant memory, even in the hardest suspension setting she is just a joy to ride in.
In P400 mode she feels nice- gear shifts on the slowest setting, DSC on comfort and i am cruising like a Gangster down
Rivonia. Hit the freeway and depress the M button and she changes into a snarling Beast. P500 mode with MDM FTW.
At 5000rpm everything starts happening in hyperspeed- she revs clean to 8250rpm with no hint of delay or let up- if
anything it feels like she needs another 500rpm.
On the freeway cruising at 235kph as indicated on the HUD I flatten the throttle and she downshifts to 5th and pulls
hard till I have to lift off at +/- 270kph.
Once the 63 was mapped she had some major punch especially from low rpm- the 6 is totally different- she feels dead
under 5000rpm.

- We get to the FRC facility in Pretoria a bit after 6ish.
Leon and I start guessing what she will put down- he says 320bhp will be great for a stock car, still with 93octane in
the tank from the delealership (dont ask me why).
The 63 did 323bhp on her last run there so- 320 is where we pegged her.
We strapped her down and she eased her way to the red line- no fanfare, no dramatics, Leon asks if the car is in P500
mode- we check it out- all looks good- we go to the computer- 359bhp fock me- run 2, and she does 360bhp- run 3
sees 359bhp again.
Thats 100bhp more than the stock 63 made there- 90 more than the chipped e92 M3 and 30 more than the tuned 63.

All I can say is I am astounded at how impressive this car is- I have driven my fair share of quick cars but to me the M6
represent the pinnacle of N/A technology and I am very happy to have the opportunity to experience it.

M6 V10 FTW

love the car but disagree on the paint in black that car looks so menacing id bet the devil has imported one to hell...in black it sends small children running inside to hide under their blanket at the sound of the V10...yes i would definitely sell my soul for one...

Great experience with your M6...

Do you think you would've had a different experience with the M5 (I know they have the same engine)..not sure whether M5 would offer a different experience though?

if i had to choose between the m6 and m5 i would definitely go with the m6 the m5 is boring to look at in comparison

Personally I would go with the M5, but don't get me wrong the M6 is an awesome car. The problem for me with M6 is some of the styling seems strange, what where they thinking when they made the bootlid, it looks much better when it has been smoothed out the follow the curve of the car. I prefer the more traditional styling of the m5 (then again I would rather take the e39 m5, even more traditional styling :) ) But this is just my opinion.
But still awesome car, I love the white, the lighter colours look so much better on any of the 6's yet there are so many people that take the darker colours, I don't understand.

///M Powa FTW always :thumbsup:
