WHINING NOISE, POSSIBLY WATER PUMP

My car gave me the same error code. Just after I picked my car up from the electrician that reconed my alternator.. after he reconed the alternator he called me saying car has no power I was like wtf.. went there after work and car drove perfectly fine he was shocked dropped him back at his place and made my way home and was only driving for 10min max and oil temp was still low and then I hear the loud fan go on already figured something was up the fan shouldn't be on temps to low so my work place was around the corner stopped there for about 30min to let traffic die off abit and let the POS cool off lol so then when I decided to leave drove less than a 1km the fan kicked in loud again and then the yellow temp light so just pulled off and had it towed home. Read codes at home and the same code as yours popped up. Had the car sent to John explained him the whole story he checked the ibs etc. He changed my pump and all seems good so far. I really hope yours isn't waterpump again it's an expensive excercise.

Yuben, that could be the ECU box fan.

No fan fitted in the ebox

According to parts list there is a fan ... NO 5

There is a fan in the ECU box

This is why I suspect the fan to the ECU box. With the JB unit also being put inside the white box, I suspect the airflow is being affected. I would think if oil is being applied to the fan being, it should be good again?

I know the blower fan also gets dust on the bearing/shaft. the blower fan can be reached through the airduct filter vents in the engine bay.

you have a warranty on your car, your last water pump was replaced recently and by a RMI workshop. the parts as i understand were OEM as well. get the car back to your service provider and let him work it out... if the pump failed again then the supplier (BMW) will carry a 12-24month warranty on the part.

There is too much faffing on this thread to pick up the proper trail of whats going on.

I agree with Kish here. Back to the basics is the best method and because you have aftermarket plan, use it.

Ok guys, feedback.......

It was the damn waterpump, no leaks or any sort but constant whine. The pump was OEM but only carries a 24 month warranty from BMW if they fitted it.

Since it is fitted by an RMI workshop, it only carries a 12 month warranty:RedNo:

This failure occurred 37 days!!!!! over 12 months.

Kamal replaced the waterpump and everything works 100%. Oil level sensor, oil temperature gauge all in harmony.

Car is back to normal.

Time to re-install the JB4:cartel:

Was out of the ordinary, these OEM pumps usually last about 60000km, I only did 20000km:smashScreen:

had my pump replaced in dec 2016 on plan and it failed in march 2017 off plan . not even 5ooo kms

they replaced it under warranty.

maybe it was a bad batch or something !
