Your alternator, oil level sensor and water pump communicate on a BSD line. Replace your pump and your sensor will work again

So his waterpump is shot again ?

Yea. The waterpump fault doesn't want to clear so it confirms the problem.

Interesting!
Didn't know the failing water pump can affect BSD interface.

But the sensor stopped working on Thursday and started working again on Saturday and malfunctioned again on Sunday.

What if it is the sensor and not the pump? How can I be sure cos this is very expensive troubleshooting.

It's an OEM pump right, it should carry a years warranty at minimum, i think bmw is one year guarantee on labor and two years on oem parts.

Is the car currently safe to drive? What warning will come up if the car overheats?

Coolant level is full.

I would not drive the car.

The car will give you a warning but you will have to pull over.

You could risk hurting the engine

Anything is possible. There are no guarantees something won't fail early but at least most parts do come with guarantees that if they do fail within a certain period (and within certain defined rules) then they will be replaced.

So the water pump runs but its faulty? Its not running correctly?

I once replaced a water pump but while i was underneath i noticed that the wire harness to the water pump (4 wires) was frayed badly.
Maybe you have the same situation.

So this morning, the whine is still there. The oil temp also increases much quicker. I drove about km and I see the oil temp dropped back to 0 so I quickly checked the oil level, and it was no longer INACTIVE but busy calculating. Switched car off at school and the waterpump no longer has the whine. iDrive shows all intervals and oil change due in 22000km.

After about 30mins in traffic, the oil level sensor is now back to INACTIVE, the whine is back and the oil service due falls back to 160km.

I'm not concerned about the oil level at the moment as I did the oil service on Saturday and the oil will still be full.

I've been reading on other forums about the grounding/earthing of the IBS(not sure of the full description) that affects the waterpump, Oil temp, oil level sensor all on 1 cable.

So instead of changing the waterpump and thermostats which was changed about 20000km ago, could it not be a loose connection somewhere :dunno:

Also can the JB4 be affecting anything ?

At this rate, I don't even think it is feasible to run this car on the dyno on Saturday:smashScreen::smashScreen::smashScreen:

I would not chance the car on the dyno. The car will be pushed to almost redline.

I have a misfire and i have to pull out from the dyno event.

I dont think the JB4 is the issue. However i would delete the codes, remove the jb and then pull codes to see if you get the same errors from the DME, if yes then you can rule out the JB.
