E46 M3

And to add on the consumption figures from Crash...

When I got the car it was sitting on 13.6l/100km. After a few days of driving it was sitting in the 16's :fencelook:

but now that I have calmed my farm... i get 11.6 mixed consumption....

if you want to change cars then go for it but you dont really NEED to

I probably don't but im just worried that once I reach 300 000km im not gonnaget anything for a car that has pretty much every available option.

I think is will work.

http://www.autotrader.co.za/used-ca...38a53cb3/makemodel/make/porsche/model/cayenne :fencelook:

It is incredibly fast in a straight line, and can be mapped and boosted untill it swells like a balloon. All while going on gravel

Funny thing is I was also looking at posches and there is a Carrera 4 on gumtree for R299 000.

Another problem is that if I decide to go 135 it will probably be a higher mileage n54

Chris I would go for the 335i.

The reason I say this is that u r already used to 4 doors and 6 cyl PETROL.

Personally I'm not a fan of Diesel and when I decide(if ever:inlove:) to sell my 330i, I will go for the 335i:thumbs:

diesel. diesel.
and dont listen to any BS about it being more expensive to maintain. yes there are a few considerations...

but the torque you get...man o man..

for 4.5yrs i had a 525i e39 2001 5'er.
ive now got a 2001 e39 530d...

410nm torque... and remember my car is 13yrs old.. essentially "old" tech.

over 500nm and around 170kw is what the e90 330d will give...WITHOUT ANY SOFTWARE, a decat a downpipe etc

some minor safe reliable tweaks will see 200kw and over 600nm.

stock standard a 2005 e90 330d will do 0-100 in 6.x seconds

so you get all of the above, well still getting over 10km per litre.

you will get 7 or 8litre per 100km if you hammer it.

its a no brainer.

with 50ppm diesel and 10ppm diesel becomeing more available soon... even better.

plus for afaik under R50 you can get liqui moly super diesel additive that you can put in your tank.

FACTS:
1.) 330d = 3lt with a turbo + fuel consumption = THE PERFECT CAR
2.) Test drive it and you will buy it.

Ok lets be honest here, only you know what u need, asking us will just make us transfer our desires to you. Yes, the facts above are true. But you need to decide for yourself what you want from a car. Make a list of 5 things u want from a car and even how it must make you feel when u drive it.

I had this exact same question last year and i did what my feelings told me. Nonetheless, the guys with the cars u looking at can advise u on the pros and cons, but only when u drive it, will u knw its for u.

But lets be honest. At this stage money is a bit of an issue. So a bargain buy would work great. Just think with all the bearing issues 8m hearing about the Ms im scared it might turn into a money pit. Dies3ls have the switl flap issues. Turbos are always a gamble. 135 and 335 yoi have the injectors and hpfp.

So each car has its pros and cons. Well my subframe ripped out so what im I complaying about.

Thanks andreas. We have 2 diesels. New one has 500nm+. Torque is addictive but it just feels souless. Hope its just a merc thing. Sound could also play a big factor as im used to a screaming i6

Thanks very much guys. So G5 is out of the question.

So its e90 330d, e46 M3, n54 135 and maybe the others.

@ moranor. No I have the Crank sensor already and I believe the O2 sensors might just be something else like an airleak or similar. Have allready phoned Diesel Electric and a Bosch O2 sensor goes for R892 or something so I can even replace both of the sensors if need be.

Car is currently sitting at 282 500km. Theres nothing really wrong with the car. Brand new clutch and DMF, getting steering wheel recovered, doing front seats and headliner later in the year, brand new Meyle Control Arms done, Powerflex LCABs done, will let you know when I have cash for RTABs, need to replace rear shocks and lastly discs and brake pads then its perfect.

Just feel like its time to move on especially with the high mileage.

Allready stated that this might only be much later in the year. Car will probably be sold for R60 000.00 or R55 000.00 for a fanatic. Should be a decent deposit on the above.

PS. Car is not really slow at the moment. Had a run with a G5 2 days ago and comfortably beat him by 1 and a half car lengths up till 120km/h. This is with O2 and crank sensor issues.

PS. My parents both have Diesels (2006 Merc C320 CDI and a 2012 Merc C350 CDI) so im no stranger to diesels. I just hope the BMW 330d isnt as joyless as the Mercs. Please convince me. Always very eager to get back into my car after driving them.

Hopefully I can go for a spin in gconry's e39 M5 and have some sense knocked back into me.

Having owned an E46 328i myself, with more than 350 000 on the clock here is my 2c:

As per my sig, I currently drive the e90 320d. IMO its pretty much on par with my e46 in terms of performance, except its totally effortless in comparison. What I mean by that is you don't need too push the engine to squeeze out the power. Slightly adjust your big toe on the right hand pedal and you have an instant response.

The consumption is just the cherry on the cake!

The only regret I have is not getting the 330d, in fact that is going to be my next car!

From personal experience and from what Ive read from other forumites the 330d is the ultimate bang vs buck machine!

Book a test drive, you will be sold!

If money is going to be a bit tight, the potential problems with the x35i cars might be a pretty big disadvantage.

330d, good mix of power and consumption, but you will absolutely miss the i6 motor.

If you're willing to wait, M3 is a great option. Having come from an E46 3er, you'll have a pretty good understanding of the car as a whole, leaving some space for DIY - also, those things rock down here at the coast.

Taking your 5 requirements and budget into account, I think the M3 is the one to look out for.

Swirl Flaps are only an issue on early the E46's/E39's... Havent heard of many issues with the E90's at all... If you're paranoid its not the biggest of jobs to remove them either

Your 1st 4 are the same :) similar to my list, I also wanted sumthin exclusive an that cud also subdue my motorbike cravings.

Ok, the fact u don't care about consumption, u just made ur choice bigger, which is awesum. So this cud be ur weekend car. And keep ur existing car for daily driving?

So I had a little drive in an M last night. Some V8 goodness and thoughts of a Diesel basically flew out the window.

My head and wallet says 330D.

My heart says e46 M3.

My girlfriend says n54 135i.

Last night says e39 M5.

If I can keep my current car and just get a weekend that would be great. But I don't think that will happen. Would be great to strip the 328i, supercharge it and turn it into a drift car.

330D will by far be the cheapest and have the best consumption.

If I can get a e46 M3 (2003+) at around R200 000.00 - R225 000.00 mark that would be ideal. Don't think thats possible without serious mileage but one can hope. YOLO

Thanks for the advise and keep it coming

The M5 is really heavy on fuel though, but an awesome car.

I have driven a manual 330d with software and DP, my o my! Awesome car.
The e39 M5 is awesome, but it could turn into a money pit. VANOS rattle fix, clutch, brake discs and pads, big end bearings etc.
