The M5 is really heavy on fuel though, but an awesome car.

That depends on the driver.

An E39 M5 with a 5L V8 could be more efficient than another similar vehicle. Then one could say than compared to XYZ the M5 is fuel efficient... Thats my take.

Sorry... I can't hear you over the sound of my V8
Fact is, we have derailed this thread a little. What it all comes down to is that this fine gentleman should buy an M... Coz Racecar!![]()

That is mostly highway driving, correct? My Cons2 is also around that mark, and Cons1 around 18.6 from the last fill up 3 weeks ago.

It's mixed driving. Was up at 15ish after some spirited driving last night. And got it down on my drive to work this morning.
I agree that it is heavy on fuel (not bad at all for a 5L V8 though) but what I meant was that how heavy it is depends on the driver.

or otherwise known as 1300 CHICO GOLF consumption.
manual 530d has 0-100 in the 7seconds region. its quick.
not m5 quick obviously. but way quick enough.
but again im saying, its old tech. enter m57d30t2(correction)
and you have 210kw and 540nm of torque. and still you will get your 8litres per 100.
you wont understand till you go test drive a turbo diesel. it has LOW down torque that you will never get from a petrol. for daily driving this matters more than KW.

I 110% agree with your last paragraph. I too was a petrol head and could feel inkantla fuel eating away at my hard earned money. Then I went and drove a e90 330d and a F30 320d. My response was WOW and today I drive a diesel. I was able to afford the F30 320d due to its light fuel consumption. The e90 330d is my second option if i could not afford the F30. The F30 handling is better than the e90. The gearbox is magic. And i have a longer motorplan as bonus. If you can find an e90 330d with low mileage then I would go for it. I don't know how much you have to spend. I can guarantee you that you will at least half your fuel cost per month you are currently using and you can rather use that money on paying extra a month on a diesel car. Go drive a E90 and for fun an F30.
In the end as one of the forum members said to me is that you have to think sensible for what your needs are and what you can afford. Yes we would all love an M5 M3 or 335i or 135i. Remember on those M cars if something brakes and you not under motorplan I feel sorry for you.
Think sensible is all I say. The choice is yours and you have to be satisfied with your car.
