Which is faster 2007 330i or 2007 330d

I love how the first words from the diesel guys are "Add software and the D kills", what if the 330i adds a turbo to even them out :roflol:

Cars need to be compared without mods and even then, two different machines all together. I'd think the 330i would win on the track, more revs to play with.

I would tend to agree with you! pull off maybe not but yes the 330i has more to play with rev wise so i think it would trump the d (untuned) although they are both wicked cars!

well then there is no comparison!:biglol: its a donkey with no compression!

exactly

My point is, as it always is, you can't compare NA with FI, but you can compare FI to FI and NA to NA.

Very true, great cars and as always, personal preference comes into play.

If you have an ounce of competitive spirit you will always wonder whether your car can beat car X  but you'll still love your car none the less.

But the engines are built differently anyway so you could never compare em!:nonono:

That is true, my comment are more aimed towards the imminent petrol vs diesel discussion that will probably follow. But the thing is it is two different types of engines so you can't really accurately compare them.
But yeah I have "compared" my car to a couple of diesels.......but I will just leave it at that.

This is always going to be a debate. Comes down to personal preference - however, driven by the same driver at the coast I reckon the 330D would nudge ahead of the 330i on launch, but the petrol will catch up and go past. On the highveld that is a different story I would think. In that case you can see what happens when taking on a 335i then...

Just a quick look on youtube:

BMW E90 330d Steptronic 0-200 km/h:
[video=youtube]

BMW E90 330i 0-160 km/h:
[video=youtube]

Not sure about the engines, think they may both be the older E90 engines, also not sure about mods and so on. But for what it's worth, the 330i is a facsimile of what mine can do...

remember that bmw did release a 335d. just that we were never lucky enough to get them in RSA.

i agree on comparing apples for apples.

the 330i and the 330d are bot awesome cars. I would be happy owning either one. they are both driven differently and handle differently as well.

lol then your M3 must be broken

i dont what to start an argument so i hope you dont take that the wrong way :)

which is faster d or i...

it really comes down to the driver...
the average driver will get more out of a diesel because they are more forgiving...
the petrol needs to be driven very well to get the most out of it...

because of the huge amount of torque diesels have the gears and revs are not as critical as the petrol... this makes it way easier to drive...

for example you cruising along and a pesky ST come out of no where so you feel the need to show him... you floor it...
now the ST has the advantage because he was already in the right gear as he already had the intention of driving fast...
in this situation the diesels torque will definably give it an advantage over the petrol...

now lets face it 90% of the time when you decide to 'test' your car it will be in a situation like this... and this is why the diesel guys believe they have a rocket...

now im not saying diesel is kak, but a petrol is better when driven well... this is reflected in 0-100 and drag times...

at the end of the day it comes down to how you drive...
if you like just staying in the lower rev range and dont mind not having a sound track diesel is for you...
if you like revving the nuts off your car and want a sound that makes your spine tingle then get a petrol...

Highveld: 330d
Lowveld: 330i

I'm starting to hate the 330d's tractor engine note after hearing my neighbor's 135i. Can't wait to get a 335i :inlove:

yes but what is the 0-100 time of the 330d and the M3 3.2 the D will feel faster because of the torque, but is it really faster?

6.1 d and 5.7 M.... i'm talking about the reef... the M is 1997 model ... the M would have a better top end.....

As a all around car the 330d is awesome... Power when u need it, light on fuel....
