Which brakes should I be looking at?

When it comes to safety critical equipment like brakes, tyre's and suspension , these are the items that in an emergency situation are most likely items that will probably end up saving your life by reducing your stopping distance, keeping your car planted to the road etc etc etc. Whilst we cant always afford to buy the best products out there, my advice would be to always buy the "best" that you can afford and steer away from the cheapest available product.

Definitely. My initial post was to get opinions on the brand as I wasn't sure about it. I'll never compromise on brakes. Also, I hate brake dust. Tired of cleaning my rims :roflol:

Honestly that post was just a generalized statement. I see some guys with some seriously modded cars that skimp on the safety critical stuff and it baffles me...

For brake dust, meguiars make an anti dust product which is meant to repel brake dust from your mags...

How are Ferodo discs and does anyone have experience with them? Not that I am leaning towards it but a few people have recommended that brand and I see no mention of it in the above posts. Is this because its no good? :hammerhead:

Goldwagen stock Surebrake discs made by Meyle, i have them on now for 2weeks and very impressed so far.

Check with Imcomex in Centurion. They had Meyle discs, was around R900 a disc for the 335i should be a lot cheaper for the 325i

Call Star Brake and Clutch and get a price on EBC Ulitmax pads, it may cost about R100 or R150 more than the Textar, maybe even the same price, for an E90 325i, but well worth it.

I see that Imcomex head office is in centurion, do you know if you could just walk in and buy parts like MIDAS or AUTOZONE, or you have to call first and order the parts, then go and collect when they arrive?

I heard Meyle are ok....however for R750 i got myself EBC Ultimax pads.

Has anyone ever measured a new brake disk for run-out? Yes that is correct a new disk, reason being BMW fitted new brakes on my 330d and a month later we discover run-out on the disks that caused a shudder :bangdesk%

I have heard it occur on a few other f series cars previously so I won't put it past occurring to yours.. It's not a common issue but it's not isolated either...

Star Brake was offering TRW pads indicating that they are officially being used in BMW's.. are they any good?

I've never heard of TRW.

Check if Sun Auto in Randburg has Textar.

TRW are the European manufactures that fall within the zf grip iirc.. They make the suspension parts for the e90/92 m3...
