discussion Maintenance history not showing. Software update at dealership, risky?

Hi all,

Last month I had my brake pads and discs done at the dealership. They forgot to log it onto my service history (viewable on infotainment system) but I didn't think much of it, figured they could do it retrospectively next time I went.
Fast forward to recently, I went in to the same dealership and did an oil service. I told them about the history issue, to which they gave me a whole shpeel about software not being up to date etc. so it wasn't pulling from the 'back end'.
The service advisor then tells me that my software is out of date and needs to be updated - all modules need to be updated to latest software - so that the service history can be entered. He tells me that there's a risk that things could go wrong which they would not be liable for.

Funny enough, I have had no issues with these service logs at a different dealership.

This all sounds very fishy to me. On one hand, his scare tactic (if that's what it is to avoid doing the work) is working, on the other hand, I would like my software to be updated - particularly my nav unit to a version > NBTevo_X so that I can bimmercode it for full screen CarPlay.

Open to opinions and suggestions.

TIA

The service history is done via the BMW server.

Software update is seperate story, its a nice to have, meaning there is always newer software for ECU's as BMW has 20+ ECU in vehicle.

They are suggesting coding the car to the latest i-step. This is not necessary. Actually, if nothing is broken rather leave everything as is in a working state. If you have your invoices for the service just accept that one is missing on the dash IMHO (or get the other dealer to update it)

Some stories here.

As far as I know services are loaded via ISTA+ , and can be loaded at anytime, however the mileage/date recorded wont match the service invoice.

happened to me recently - however I got them to load it 2 days later with a few extra kms on the clock vs the invoice.

if months have passed, rather do as TurboLlew mentioned above and just accept it ...a significant discrepancy will bring about more issues than a service not logged on the iDrive.

Not sure what Gen your car is, but on my 2012 X3 F25 the services on the BMW portal show the last service in 2019. I have taken my car to Bmw for every service. I asked them about it and they basically had no idea.
