It's in my cubby, I tried several USB devices and nothing happens, but my phone charges when I plug it in there.

That's what I need in my X5 for my iPod as I just have the AUX not a USB connection, I wonder if that's a retrofit connection, do you have the iDrive function?

Yes I do, I have the USB and Aux in the armrest, I bought the Y cable and I use my iPod to play music. I can see my playlists and songs on I drive and I can navigate the iPod via the controller.

Yup I have everything on this X5 including the DVD player in the rear {which I never use} but no USB connector for my iPod, I can however play it through the AUX facility but cannot see or control the Pod through the iDrive .. something so small but really miss this.

A retrofit just to enable this USB connectivity will cost around 6k :blueCry:

You can buy the USB/aux adapter on eBay for R250 including shipping and do a retrofit.

Do you need to have iDrive for this? I was told, last week, by a BMW workshop manager that I cannot retrofit a USB connection under the armrest on my car. He mentioned that I need to also have the correct head unit. I was more interested in having a charging point for my phone and not really the ipod functionality. I have issues charging my phone and was looking for a way around using the cigarette lighter.
