What's this USB port for?

I have the professional unit so I would imagine I would use these cables and connect up behind the 6 CD changer unit in the glove box and then create a USB fitment where I can plug my Ipod in and use it that way.

Wonder if this will now be functional on my iDrive display where I can see the artists, songs, playlist etc on the iDrive and change them there via the iPod, I would imagine that the volume on the steering wheel will operate as it is doing now with me using the Pod through the AUX connection???

If this unit will work then I will obviously buy off eBay just need someone to tell me it will and assist me with fitting in CPTN somewhere please guys :ty:

Guys,

The above is simply a cable. There's no electronics with which to convert from USB to audio, which in the case of CCC will be a device with optical capability. BMW never offered USB capability as OEM on CCC. There was an iPod interface though.

Only way that I'm aware of to go from USB on a CCC is to use a Denison Gateway. I'm sure there's other units priced similarly available to do this as well, but a simple adaptor cable will never work. I'm happy to be proven wrong.

Thanks Ratslaaf you have deep tech knowledge so if I were to connect this up to my CD 6 changer in the glove box it would not work, just frustrating having no flipping USB in the car "so simple" but iPod and the interface of controlling this via my iDrive is sorely missed :blueCry:

If I understand correctly u can convert an aux port into a usb port?

Not convert but replace the current Aux only adapter with a USB & Aux adapter and just run the USB connection cable to the back of the radio.

Will the radio need coding for this to happen ? Been following this thread closely.
