What's this icon on my OBC?

Curious to know what this icon is for. Can't find it in my owners manual or on the interwebs:fencelook: Between the odometer reading and the km sign and above the outside temperature reading. Looks like a clock of sorts:flyfun: I remember it lit up when I was due for an oil service.

For the guys reading this thread its a good pic to point something out. Next to the km mark there is a dot. If that is lit it means mileage has been tampered with. Not full proof but good to know.

Service light due to time between services

Thanks man:thumbs: Weird that there's no reference made to it in the manual. I went through the manual about 3 times and couldn't find it anywhere unless I missed it:flyfun: So essentially it lights up if your car is due for a service before the service interval due to time regardless of mileage?

I believe so. I could be wrong but that's what I have been told previously.

I always thought it was some sort of indicator to alert you when you're nearing your service interval. Mine lit up around 1000km before I was due for a service.

i dont see the indicator you are looking for that is out of place??:flyfun:

ah i see wat you mean. its not illuminated in the current pic. this clock symbol comes on above the service due mileage due when the instument cluster is switched on when its due. it is called an annual fluid light. depending on the service history it could mean the brake fluid needs to be changed or the coolant and brake fluid needs to be changed. brake fluid every two years and coolant every four years:rollsmile: i think the e36 models after 96 also have this feature

Hey Jarred:thumbs: thanks makes sense because I remember the light was on when I brought it to you for a service and the service history indicates the car was last serviced about a year and a half before by the previous owner which was an inspection 2 service I think:thumbs:

to my understanding it gets lit up every time your timer reaches a 1000km or less on for eg

Polin Filter - every two years
BrakeFluid change every 2 Years

and so on All the items that is time or has a life expectancy of x amount of months or years will get light up and then the obc will show what item needs to be replaced.

I saw this on my E90 when both the Polin and BrakeFluid needed replacement and when you cycle through the service list it Highlights the item needing replacement

e90 has conditon based servicing. C.B.S. all items are mileage related or condition. in the e90 the thermal oil level sensor also gives back data to the dme/dde on the condtioin of the oil. oil is to be changed every 2 years irrelevant of the conditions. that is bmw law.
the previous models ie the e46 that clock symbol would come on every two years for brake fluid or coolant. if it came on and coolant or brake fluid was not due according to the service history then it is in its 2year gap for the oil to be changed as per time. i know this coz i was fortunate enough to carry out two services on an e39 m5 by time. this was two out of five services. car had 17 thousand kilos on the clock. first car i saw where bmw extended the motor plan past 7 years because of the low mileage. and yes its still on motorplan. owner is a popular car collector in Port Alfred.
