Im trying to work out if my car has a 3L or a 2.5l engine, according to the wikipedia article on the e90, they changed the engine to a 3L one in 2007. My car is a 2007 and according to realoem I have the n52n engine.

I was also wondering what the technical difference is between a 325i and 330i that both have the 3L engine, is it just software mapping that decreases the power of the 325?

Your engine capacity is a 2.6L. I'm doing research on the difference between my E90 323i and the E90 352i for some mods and trust me theres not much in it. The only difference between the 323 and 325 is the intake manifold, software and 2.5L capacity on the 323i. Other than that its all the same Gearbox the works.

If i'm not mistaken the 330i is a 3.2L motor

I don't think we got those motors here in SA considering we have our own Plant and our low fuel grade.

Cost wise it also would not make sense to put a more expensive motor in when you can just tweak the ECU for less

From what I can gather the e90 325i came with the N52 B25 O1 engine from 2005-2008 which is a 2.5l engine, from then on (the LCI) came with the N53 B30 U0 which is a 3.0l engine.

I re-call reading somewhere that the facelifted 325i were using de-rurned 3.0l motors...not sure if that was worldwide. Should ask BMW dude

As far as I am aware the 125i has a 3.0l motor, the 325's still have a 2.5l motor.

Thats how I have it as well. Check the manual that came with the car. See if there is an "SA spec" booklet in there.
