This was one of the things i still need to do, well it's to late now. Wil do it if i can save the engine.

It happened on about 1500 RPM and 80m from home. Idle it back to my garage.

How much damage do you guy's think happen in such a short time. The flap and half of the shaft is gone. Will open up and see what it looks like. I suppose the flap itself can not get pass the valve. Hope to be able to fix it. It is a nightmare to get a good used engine!

Any tips please, things i must be on the lookout while stripping down the head.

Regards
Barkie.

sorry to hear taking these out really has to be the 1st thing to do when getting an e46 diesel... it happens way to often...

I hope the damage is not to bad and you can get it fixed relatively cheaply...

i would get a hold of clutchplate he has a workshop close to you and he really knows his stuff...

I dont have his number but im sure someone has it...

Sorry for your engine damage! It is definitely on my to do lists for next weekend, I finished the de-cat operation, wanted next to re-map, but I will be devastated if my engine would do this now, however, I did remove the intake when I replaced a leaking water pipe and all of the vacuum hoses in the same time. My flaps looked very clean with no deposits and I assumed that it was safe to leave them on. How many km's on your engine? I would suppose you have to look at piston crown and cylinder damage.:sorry:

@ tito1, remove it as soon as you can. If i test the other 5 flaps they still feel very solid. I remapped mine a while back and end up with 192kw and 510 nm. a real joy to drive. Hope i can sort this out without replacing the engine.

Thanks, i will contact Clutcplate.

Clutcplate does not spend much time on the forum any more because he is busy with his workshop so its best if you get his number... i know you probably want to get this sorted asap...

some of the jhb guys should have his number you can try PM zaleonardz@DentDoctor...

@ tito1--- The Xcede guy's in PE did mine. Very impressed with the service.
My car is the 150kw engine. I asked for a mild map and not something that i will break when using all the power. It does chow the rear rubber a bit.

Who did your remap and cost please? what engine you got? 135/150kw? mine's steptronic 135kw.

Hey Tito,

I could be wrong but I'm sure I read somewhere that remapping the 135kw isn't a good idea because those gearboxes were already at their design limit with the stock engine outputs. You might want to confirm that first ma man. P1000 is your guy I think on this one, PM him

Sorry for the mini-jack

@ Camiel----Clutchplate is in East London, Eastern Cape. Hope he wo'nt mind as I want to give him a ring today to hear if he can sort me out.

@ Rick540---Will get some pics up the site later today as i am working today till one. I thought being a 2004 330d with the better inlet manifold, the swirls will last!!

Thanks all.

Man that's scary!

So the screws come loose from the flap and it's bye bye engine for a silly 2cent screw.

The fix is new plastic flaps or removal. They could have totally prevented this by welding the flap to the shaft.

Mmmmm maybe I should design a repair kit that fixes this?
