Water damage

Plugged into a mini 'dam' on the R24 this morning after that torrent. Car wouldn't start thereafter, lots of rumbling etc.

Anyone experienced this - tow truck guy says water damage. Will speak to Autobahn repairs tomorrow to confirm actual fault. Is this serious?

Write off most likely.

Happens much more then you think.

Engine ingests water, nowhere to displace it, metal things bend...

SHit..!!

really sorry to hear this, but as LZ mentioned, I have seen many posts here along the same topic lines.

I am about to go on a small sunday drive about, ...note to self....avoid puddles, no MP on my old 5'er

No most def it will be an insurance claim.

The reason for the question, is considering that the car is still under motorplan, it will most likely be a write off.

If the car was not under motorplan you could have installed a second hand engine for about 40k

But since the car is under MP, this will not be an option, the only way would be to replace the motor with a new one, which is in excess of 200k more then likely.

THat over teh value of the car may deem write off.

If you put in a second hand motor, the MP will be voided, and the assessors responsibility of "putting you in the exact same position before the incident, nothing more, nothing less" cannot be met.

However, this is worst case scenario, highly likely consider the "noises" but have it towed to the dealership and take it from there.

I read a article which said this accident was caused 'by a BWM driver' - wasn't me.

Autobahn repair centre quote of R275k(incl labour) - assessor hasn't seen been to the car yet I think. I think 250 would equate to about 70 percent of the cars value.
