Lekker Boys,

So not much has happened last few months.

Ive been driving the 330d as a daily and he is a dream. In town I can see he is a bit heavier than my old 320d, but on the open its so marginal one doesn't even realise.

Also it must be noted that the torque is a curse. I drove like a grandpa in my 320d. Now I use every excuse in the book, ie: "You bloody taxi" or "nee kom nou man, ons ry nie 100 hier nie!" to put foot.

I have purchased an original Style 285 rim and a tyre as a full size spare to match the original wheels for long distance trips.

I have yet to fit the tyre, and sommer do alignment, balancing on all the wheels while I am at it.

Sitting @ 105 000km now;

Performed a routine 10 000km service yesterday which consisted of:

oil & oil filter
air filter
MAF clean
& finally new stabiliser links. < very easy DIY

No news is good news, I have loads of planned preventative maintenance but to be honest nothing is urgent, or necessary!

Small maintenance update:

I had the pleasure of dealing with @dannyOPC early in Dec 2019 (Thanks again for the great service). He gave the car a once over (he had the car for about a week total)

Front control arms were moeg so had them replaced together with vacuum lines. Furthermore XHP stage 2 was loaded on the gearbox and I must admit I am very impressed with the smooth gear changes.

I have a routine oil service due in 2000km (@115 000km) and I have a few other odds & ends to include in that service.

No news is good news!

Now that the forum is (semi) working again, I am happy to post a small update:

Currently on 115 000km

New oil & oil filter
MAF Clean
New air filter
New Diesel filter
Brake fluid flush
Wheel balancing, rotation and alignment (done just before lockdown)

For anyone interested, I followed the guide below for the brake fluid flush:
I don’t have a turkey baster, so used a pump to drain the fluid out the reservoir. It’s a pretty easy DIY.

Imcomex sent me the wrong diesel filter and I only realized this after removing the old filter. For time being the old filter is back in the car until I can get it swapped out.
Changing the diesel filter can be quite a messy affair with diesel dripping and messing everywhere. I used quite a simple trick to minimize spillage that worked like a charm:

1. Once the plastic body panels are removed, loosen the bracket holding the diesel filter in place slightly
2. Loosen the small pipe clamp on the filter side closest to the front of the car, and slowly start removing the pipe. Take the plastic cap fitted over the nipple from your new filter and pop it on the old filter as soon as the pipe is take off (this will stop diesel draining from the filter).
3. Loosen the bracket completely and let the diesel hang in a vertical manner – the nipple with the plastic cap facing down.
4. Loosen the heat exchanger side of the filter and while still holding the filter vertically take it out – all the diesel will remain in the filter. No spillage!

I am sure you can even take it a step further and drain the diesel in the old filter into the new filter to prime it before installing, not too sure about that tho.

In the interest of keeping this maintenance thread updated:

Currently on 125 000km

New oil & oil filter. Also replaced the sump plug with OEM as the old one started leaking.
MAF Clean
New air filter
Wheel balancing, rotation and alignment
Replaced 2 boost seals with sweat on them

Also, I had an unfortunate accident late April 2021 close to OR Tambo.

A food delivery cyclist decided it was a good idea to cross the road without looking. Luckily I saw him, swerved & braked simultaneously, but it was too late. Impacted front left of the car, and he went flying. Cyclist was OK, but the following items were damaged on the car: Front bumper. front left fender, front left door, left mirror, windscreen and bonnet.

Received the car back yesterday and everything was repaired back to spec - very happy with the result.

Future maintenance includes: replacing sticky door handles, and interior detail

Just an update on the thread.

The car has now found a new home. My father bought the car from @tman and they concluded the deal yesterday. I can only commend him in the way the sale was handled and how he went out of his way to deliver a truly well kept and well maintained car.

The 63 year old toppie suddenly has a serious need for some TLGP's ,which is understandable given the way this car pulls.
