So I take now that your car is on the forum in a project thread it means we will be loading some performance mods on the car?
All in good time :)

For now the car only has Downpipe. Will see how long stock power will be "enough"

Quick update, maybe some experts can shed some light.

I had the balancing, alignment checked again today (5th time in 2 months), due to the slight vibration that remains between 80-100km/h

Shocks, bushes, control arms, and all other suspension parts are fine. Rims are 100% straight, I personally stood next to the balancing machine and observed. The tyres have no flat spots, no uneven wear etc, again I went through this with the technician, he even showed me an example of a tyre that had uneven wear and flat spots to compare.

Here is the thing tho, the tyre wobbles on the rim while on the balancing machine. The technician made me believe "yano, you need 4 new shocks, as worn shocks causes uneven wear" < although there was no uneven wear what so ever.

I am quite convinced the tyres are causing this problem (they have 15 000km on them), OR maybe a combination of rear rotors that are warped (fronts were replaced recently).

Its like a little gremlin that just doesn't want to go away, as mentioned in earlier threads I am probably being overly perfectionistic, but I want something to be 100% :rage:

Suggestions & diagnostics welcome!

I had this issue with new tyres and was told that they needed "to be turned". I have no clue what that meant but I did see that they turned the tyre inwards on some sort of machine. This was due to factory overrun and me buying cheap tyres.

As they wore down (not badly) the issue seemed to have solved itself.

had a similar issue - turned out to be caused by cheap tires that were not perfectly round. When I replaced the tires with a branded one the drive was instantly smooth.

What brand of tires do you have on the car? Also, out of round tires can and do cause vibrations. I always stand next to the balancing machine and look at the tire from the side to see if it is completely round when they spin the wheel on the machine. Other than that, could be that some water is trapped inside the wheels. What happens if you swop the front and back wheels?

Small update:

After 18 000km & balancing the wheels no less than 6 times I contacted Continental SA to try and see if they are able/willing to assist.

The biggest flaw in trying to diagnose and resolve the problem, was not to contact them sooner.

7th time lucky the wheels were balanced again last week Monday with a Continental representative present, and low and behold they wheels bounce and/or wobble on the rim.

Due to manufacture error, Continental gave me a sweet rebate. The dealer offered me a choice between a new set of Continental or Michelin. After the prolonged frustration I was more likely to necklace myself with the old Continentals rather than getting another set. Subsequently a new set of Primacy 3's were fitted today @ 93 000km

Next project in line is to fit the 4 OEM boost seals I bought a while back! Silly season with all the weddings etc is finally over, I will prioritize over the next few weeks!

Also: 10 000km oil service is due in 2000km

Update time!

1. I am happy to report that 90% of vibration reported earlier is gone after replacing all 4 tyres. I had a full suspension inspection done on the 3rd of October, including shocks, all control arms, engine/gearbox mountings, bushings etc. I also had the rims inspected again to make sure they are straight, overall everything is OK, apart from the stabiliser links that are a bit moeg. I have already obtained pricing, and at R640 for both I will replace at the next oil service.

New tyres going on!

2. I wrapped the kidneys & spray painted the mirror caps round about the same time (I think it was in June 2018). I am happy to report the combination of Rust-Oleum products used on the mirror caps have been holding up great.

Even though its a front facing part (prone to bugs, rocks etc), it doesn’t have any chips, discolouration, fading etc of any kind. I am really happy with how they are holding up. Unfortunately I can’t say the same about the grills.

If I have to take a wild guess its probably due to combination of factors, being el-cheapo gloss black wrap used (bought on BidorBuy - avoid) & my wrapping skills not being on par. After a few months it started to make bubbels, and I subsequently removed the wrap. Luckily I have a spare set of OEM kidneys that I could fit while working on the other set.

Process followed:

1. Remove wrap & clean thougly.
2. Sand with 60/100/800/2000 grid sandpaper
3. Wash again, leave to dry
4. Apply primer in light coats (all products used in pics below)
5. Apply 3 coats paint
6. Apply gloss black clear coat
7. Leave to cure in the wendyhouse for 5 days prior to fitment.

Fellow formulate and 330d owner @schalk320d assisted me to replace all 4 boost seals mentioned in my previous post on the 6th of October. With him having completed the DIY a few weeks back on his car, I was in able and confident hands. Couple of minutes in @FerdiBotha also jumped in. This ended up as a group effort, and compensation was in the form of a well deserved beer & burger afterwards!

I want to thank both again for their assistance, having people like you on the forum makes this a great place! :praise:

@FerdiBotha applied his voodoo polishing technic on my tips - loving the shiny look! :bravo:

Lastly, I got some new fanatics stickers that was promptly fitted.

Next up:
1. As mentioned in my previous post an oil service is due in 2000km.
2. Together with the oil service Ill replace the front stabiliser links
3. Before that though I will be visiting ZF on the 10th of October. When the car was on a lift on the 3rd of October I saw some oil on the plastic cover directly underneath the gearbox. The gearbox received a clean bill of health roughly 8000km ago, and hasn’t given any issues as yet. Being pedantic I called up Nico and an appointment was made, Ill rather get it diagnosed & sorted sooner than later.
