Vacuum hoses

I have a two part question. I want to replace all the rubber vacuum hoses on my E46 320d since some of them have started perishing. I have a distinct vacuum leak on the pipes which affects the turbo and the EGR valve.

1) Is there a better alternative or make or rubber hose that I should be looking at? The current ones is rubber with a braided outer material.

2) Where in CT would I get this good quality hose? Midas or similar?

REALOEM speaks of a 3,5 x 2,0 hose. What does that mean?

You can buy the OEM hose per meter from BMW, it is really good and lasts a long time. The MIDAS stuff is best if its not in your car (will last about a year). If you were in PTA I could point you to a supplier of good German hose. Also check the hose that is grayed out in your pic, they sometimes give problems, as well as the hoses coming out of the vacuum pump.
3.5mm is the inner diameter, I am not sure of the x2.0 maybe wall thickness? I replaced mine with 3.2mm.

Got a quote from the dealer (Forsdicks) R208-59 per meter. Still have to see how many meters are required.

It does seem a bit excessive? I had a figure of R40-R50 in my head?

IIRC my aftermarket German hose was R50 per meter, I bought 2m and I could replace part 8 in your diagram and one other short piece, but I think the layout might differ in my car... You'll probably need 3-4m to do all that needs done (on a 530d).

Just to update this thread (It's been a while, I know) But I got diesel tubing at Rubber Mouldings and Products in Parow for something like R18 per meter (April 2011). It should go for a bit more, but still not what the dealers ask.

The shop is also not called RM&P any more, but they are still there. Boompies street, Parow. Across the BMW repair center. (BTW you do NOT want to go in there and see what is going on, the horror)
