Guys I know the stock 330i exhaust tone is epic for stock but this takes it to another level.

After first hearing Gizmo's 330i, the bug bit me.

You guys have no idea how awesome your cars are going to sound just with the decat let alone the entire system.

Please update us. So its still stock backbox but with 57mm running through? Twin or single pipe till rear? Middle box?

ok raspy as hell at 3500 WOT need to fiddle some more...

on another note i ACCIDENTALLY exited a traffic circle sideways so torque delivery is definitely different to what it was and has not lost any top end torque from the feel of it

just need to make it sound right now

Has anyone done a full viper system ? From the previous thread about this I was under impression that this was the best way to go ? Trying to cut the cats out and replace the piping plus the branch ending costing close to the full viper system IIRC ?

When I looked into this at that time, the real issue was that the coating of the headers was actually more than the headers themselves:thumbdo:

Can you describe the system you put on?

stock back section with both boxes custom front section with Viper branch

the front section is stepped so as the exhaust gasses cool the exhaust velocity is kept up... initial impressions are that it has worked :) but i will be doing back to back dyno runs against a full free flow...

I have lived with a full free flow for well over 2 years now and I really love the tone... road construction crews seem to love it the most they will dance and whistle if a floor it past them

but i find there are times when I wish my car did not get this much attention

my goal is to make a system that is quiet in low RPM so you can sneak around and then all hell breaks loose at high RPM with good performance :) the active rear silencer on the e46 allows this to happen and why i want to develop a system around it...

so far:
is silent in low RPM
sounds insane at High RPM
performs well

just need to eliminate the rasp with as little impact on performance as possible and its job done :)

I have the 57mm dual pipes all the way through to a freeflow back box.

Ive got a quick tunnel vid to upload just to give guys an idea. Personally i love the sound, some will think its too loud, especially the oldies ;)

Gonna upload now

Looking at your previous cars, i understand the need for a 'louder' exhaust. Still love the sound of a flat four at full tilt

Nice going moranor! I have a decatted exhaust with stock backbox and custom middle box. Fitted straight pipes in place of the cats and got rid of the exhaust valve (whatever you call it).

Car is nice and deep on cold start. When warm its quiet. Up to 3000RPM car is dead quiet as stock. From 3000RPM to 3700RPM the rasp kicks in. Very raspy like the M3. And then at 4000RPM and up till red line the induction kicks in with a deep howl.

I will make a vid so you can compare.

at the moment it sounds similar to the exhaust Chris had before he changed his back box

some may like it but I feel it lacks the refinement a BMW should have... I can offer both options for those that like it but im sure most will prefer the sound without the rasp :)

[video=youtube]

in the Vids the rasp is not very evident but when you in the car with the window down it is very loud... people were looking at me on my drive yesterday and not in a good way :fencelook: you can also google e46 rasp there are plenty vids up

I will make Vids of all configurations once I have resolved the Rasp :)

Moranor, when you say stepped are you going larger in pipe diameter? Or is the whole system dual 50mm including your custom section? If your exhaust has a collector 2-1-2 that can cause rasp.

Let me charge up my Drift HD cam and take a video of my fiance's 330i.

stepped as in going smaller as the exhaust gasses cool to keep the exhaust velocity up all the way to the end

current system is 2-1 fully mandrel bent on the 325i and 330i it will be 2-1-2
I will be fitting a correctly sized resonator to give the car a deeper tone and kill the rasp :) because this is where it happens was hoping going single would kill all the rasp but between 3000-3500 its is very loud :( not the end of the world but i want the tone to be perfect...
