I need to replace tyres on my Cooper S in the near future. I'd prefer to stay with runflats, and thought I'd get Hankooks, but they don't have 205/45/R17. What other options are there?

I got some 205/45/R17 My-01's on Swambo's mini. I have test driven the sht out of them, and they stick to the road like mad!!. She has been at the gymkhana with then, and they performed superbly... Just carry a tire repair kit and a compressor!!!.

Dont you have a high lift jack? hehehe...
I will carry a set of normal snot and rubber stick's with some rubber compound. just for a temp fix. Once back in town or safe place, get a decent repair job done on it. Every time I have fixed a tire with the repair kit's i have never needed to lift the vehicle. Just check the tread for any signs of a nail ect, pull it out, and fix. I doubt this is the best way, but It has worked for me in the past. Unluckily, If you have my luck, you will loose the valve's(Dodgy set of 4) so I had 3 flat's before realizing this... not a happy puppy!!. Does the S not have a spare? SWAMBO's mini has a marie-biscut in the back, underneath the rear boot.

I have a friend in the Tire business, so the mags and tires with fitment ect worked out about 6k? so not sure how much the tires were...

I don't like tire weld.. once again it stuff's up the valves,and unbalances the tires.

Ahh.. I'm looking at options now, but the more I think about it, the more I'm put off putting normal tyres on. I travel a fair amount, and nothing would annoy me more than getting stuck at night somewhere with a flat I can't fix. At least the RFT's would get me somewhere I could stay over, or somewhere safer if needs be.

I'm also curious about tyre sizes. 205/40, 215/40, 225/45, 205/45, a lot to choose from, and only a few mm difference in diameter between them, but no one seems to know..

works like a bomb, with no rubbing.

I've gota tyre size calculator, but I'm not sure how much difference the different sizes makes, for example I've been told 225/45 will rub, but the difference seems so small. Also, need runflats in those sizes...

Going wider to 225 from 205 means tyre is 20 mm wider - it may touch , normally one size wider is ok , but some cars can go much bigger . IMHO stick with 45 profile if using runflats , 40 profile will give harsher ride . Good luck .

225 will look stupid on the mag, so don't do it. in any case you'll have to go 225/40 or maybe lower profile to stay more or less on the same size.

The differance in profile between the 205/45 and 215/40 is not that big.

And in anycase it's a mini and if you stick with runflats, no matter what you put on it will be harsh.

OK, time has come that these RFT's need to eff off!

Looking at Dunlop SP7000 in 205/40/17, or 215/45/17 (standard 205/45/17), but I don't know which to take..

Will the 215's rub at all? Will the 205/40's be uncomfortable, or look naf?

OK, judging by other web opinions, 215's will be fine, quoted R707ex per tyre for Dunlop SP7000's, which I rate I'm going to take!

and dunlop sp7000 might be the worst tyre in the world. don't do it to yourself.

Looking at Bridgstone RE002's?

Any bridgestone is good.

Try getting incontact with Autoquip, there is a good potenza that is a bit hardcore for less than a bankjob. Can't remember the name. And get 215/40s they look like the fit the mag better than 205's and are a bit cheaper.

215/40/R17 are 12mm smaller than 205/45/R17. Had a 215/45/R17 on today, and it looked like an AT tyre :thumbdo: That was 9mm bigger..

At the moment I'm looking at Yokohama AR01 205/45/R17, will hopefully get a price tomorrow, but tyretraders has them for R1230ea fitted, which seems about right for this size.

My scariest moment in a car was on the N1 in a Cooper S in hard rain running on Dunlops... Never ever ever again.
