Tried something new, with amazing results

So, have been researching the car detailing, and how to get the car ready for a show.

Normally a big fan of Mequires products, but their clay kit was a bit expensive.

At Builders WareHouse found the Sonax equivalent, at half the price. Thought lets try, and once one did a small piece. WOW

Its extremely slow going on a 30 year old car, but afterwards you can not stop touching it it feels so good. Polished with Mequires wax afterwards the panels look like brand new............

Will post pics as soon as I have done the rest of the car........

Hi Adi

How much did you pay for the Sonax clay? The Meg clay bar is expensive stuff.

Thats very cheap, the Megs clay bar is about R450 and you still need to buy the detailers spray.

Yip......so Sonax clay and Meg polish, as I discovered brilliant combo...

How does it work.......thanx google
A car clay bar is an essential car detailing tool that targets the common enemy of every car finish: pollution that causes automotive paint contamination. It relentlessly pursues your car from the second it leaves the factory until your car meets its ultimate demise. It's in the air we breathe, it's on the roads we drive, and it attaches to your car's paint, where it bonds and begins a process of oxidation.

When contaminants get a solid grip on your car's paint, washing alone may not be enough to remove them. Pre-wax cleaners also may not be able to exfoliate large particles. In this case, you have two choices: use a polishing compound, which removes a lot of paint material, or use a clay bar. A clay bar isn't a polish or a compound, it is a surface preparation bar that smoothes the paint and exfoliates contaminants.

Clay bars are used to extract contaminents embedded in your paint work. If you put your hand in a small jiffy bag and run your finger tips over your paint work, you will be able to feel all the lumps and bumps in the paint work. After using the clay bar to extract the kak and do the same test, you will be amazed at the difference.

Its hard work but the results are definately worth it. Please however remember to ensure that the panel has sufficient lubrication before rub the clay on it to avoid scratching / marring the panel. After claying, polish and seal your car will look great.

Whats the process involved? From what i know you spray the lubrication spray on and run the clay over the panel.

You will introduce some swirls with the clay, since it has abrasives in, so it is necessary to polish with something that has a bit of cut...

@Adi - Wipe off ... What do you recommend for this? DO you polish with a machine or by hand?
I have some marks on the bonnet that needs some attention. Not sure if it's a DIY polish job if the clearcoat is damaged.

@P1000 - polish with a bit of cut - like rubbing compound?

Looks like serious graft.

No, that stuff won't come near my car's paint, it is also way to aggressive. No, you need something like Menzerna Final Finish, or SIP, depending on the state of the car. But those polishes need to be used with a machine to work properly. Shield car polish has a bit of cut, it will work alright. The megs stuff will also work, but there is a myriad of different products, and I don't know which one will work. As long as it is not just a wax.
