Ive recently traded up from A Z4 3.0si Coupe to a Z4 M coupe, and I am absolutely delighted, its definitely a future classic and the driving experience is the best I've experienced, I Say keep the M coupe as long as you can. with that being said, the guy I bought mine from upgraded to a Porsche and if im honest that would be my aspiration as well someday...

Where's the new car thread? :p Love seeing Z4Ms.

I definitely enjoy my Z4M, it is really special, and even though Z4s themselves are pretty dime a dozen, the M does differentiate itself without being gaudy or over the top.

As a kid I also thought more-more-more. But 250kw or so is plenty. I'm not even close to skilled enough to control this car at even 7 tenths.

i think I'll probably wait out the next few quarters and see what comes along. Right now I think taking on *such* a massive financial burden is a bit overboard. But this may be something I revisit more seriously in 6-9months.
Heres a teaser..   https://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=92670&pid=1424577#pid1424577

Official thread will come up soon.

Agreed, I've owned it for a few weeks now and still haven't driven it with the traction control off , for the money vs power vs driving experience vs how special it makes you feel , nothing comes close, it is a niche car indeed.
some will say im silly paying +R100k more for a car that looked the same and is maybe slightly better than the one I had , but as a petrol head these decisions are made with the heart not the head..

keep it for a few more months before you scratch the itch.

There are a few thoughts to unpack in that.
First off; a 911 is a different driving experience to a BMW M car. The rear-engined thing is a bit weird to drive the first time you drive one with any sort of zest. SO go experience a 911, and then think if that's an experience you want in your life vs a front-engined, rear-drive platform.

Then, which 911? 997s are way nicer to drive than 996s, spec-for-spec, but a 996 Turbo is a lovely lovely car. I haven't driven a 997 C2, but driven 997.1 Turbo and 997.2 C4S. Both incredible cars. Easily worth the 15% price premium of a 997 over a 996.
The 996 also feels kinda old. If you buy the last 996 Turbo off the production line, you're getting a car that was built 15 years ago and designed in late 1990s and it feels like it. The whole thing looks and feels just a bit 'meh' when you sit in it. (I mean to sit in, not to drive.)
So for Porsche, spend some of the extra money and get the nicest 997 you can find. I'd also have a nice 997 over a first-year 991.

So then the M2. The warranty and motor plan are worth their weight in gold. I'm sure many guys here have had to put their special toys in the garage for a month or 2 while they shuffle the money around for some expensive part that's broken and you have to fork out R20k for. The M2 also drives really nicely.

But my gut says still with the Z4M as long as you can. Like Llew pointed out, the idea of your job being safe is really crazy at the moment, and some really weird industries are still going to flourish or plummet over the next few months. I'd sit tight on the Z4M as much as possible, and keep an eye on the 911 market with your side-eye. Peak 911 is over for anything that isn't a top-tier special, so let's see where 997 C2 prices start to settle once things sorta get chugging again.
Good luck!

It is tempting to measure all these cars on paper but there are 2 things to consider:

1.Second.... well it doesn't go all that nicely -

2. Somewhat on this: Go and drive those 7MT cars and then drive a PDK before you write it off. Only the internet will think you are cool and you will have to live with it.

Spot on as usual.

Really been pondering the same. Keen to try a M240i before I settle down and really itching with the current interest rate situation.

Wasn’t looking at Porsches lol but guess that’ll be next in the ladder
You won't go wrong with an M240i, I bought one 6 months ago and I'm loving every moment of it. It's almost as good enough as an M2 if I'm being honest.
