following this thread, alot of us ordered the bluetooth adapters.

i received mine on friday and i'm happy to announce that it works. at first i struggled to pair the device to my phone, but i eventually discovered the pairing code is 6789.

i purchased the full version of torque and thus far i've only checked and cleared my codes.

the fanatics who had time to play with the app, can you please share your experiences here so that we all can gain from your knowledge.

cheers

it appears nobody did anything apart from reading and clearing codes.

well, even if reading and clearing codes is the only thing i did, i already saved some $$$$$. i paid R167 for bluetooth device and R34 for the Torque software, and by reading and clearing my own codes i alredy saved R100 seeing that the local guy would've charged me R300 to do that.

yesterday on my way home i tried to graph some info, i tried the MAF rate vs RPM to see if i could diagnose a mulfunctioning MAF, this is what i got.

i'll play around more and see what other meaningfull info i can get.

im also interested in the functionality of the torque software, i want to pick up the adaptor next week and hopefully its the software is versatile. im interested more in data logging.

does it work on pc? or only android?

It's an Android app...... you may answer your question yourself; except if you find an Android emultator for your OS

You can get hold of all android data on the PC, and even control the android app from the PC. You have to however root your phone. I looked at this some time ago but haven't actually done it, and probably won't.

That was not the question as I understand it.....
Rooting the phone is nothing bad! It's the same as if you run Ubuntu on a PC and get SU (SuperUser) permissions to "leave" your assigned directory and work on "highest" level (root directory) with top permissions.... nothing more but nothing less.

Everybody who wants to make really use of his SmartPhone should "root it" hence have SuperUser permissions to run apps.:joy:

.... however, it WILL work on an Android pad though (not only an Android phone)

Tested on my 7" and 10,4" pads

I bought the ELM327 OBDII adapter that was posted here, doesn't work on my car with torque - but other apps like INPA and CarSoft do work.

Probably because Torque (which is an awesome app btw!!) doesn't have the OBDII protocol that the M5 uses. I've tried out the free version of Torque on my mates Ford Fiesta and the ladies Figo - work's 100's :)

From my knowledge, Torque is more of a monitoring tool and has basic ECU error code clearing and reading. For anything more advanced, start off with CarSoft or INPA a shot

Jeff do you have INPA or CarSoft on your phone?

im guessing it the Torque app wont work on the e46 ether because it was made at about the same time...

Nope.
Sorry, my last post wasn't that clear - haven't had my morning coffee yet ;)

INPA and CarSoft are installed on my laptop. I've got the OBDII Adapter paired via Bluetooth to my laptop. You need an x86 OS to run INPA.

On a side note, if you guys are looking for top of the range stuff, have a look at ScanTool.net. Torque recommends them. When I have some spare cash around I'll order one and post up a review.

Bluetooth Adapter
WiFi Adapter
They've also gotta new one, seems to support a lot more protocols like SW CAN & MS CAN.

No no, torque will be able to read codes - but from what I've used it for, it's mostly just monitoring ECU values.

thought you said torque was not working on your car... maybe i need more coffee...

LOL!!
Or we both need coffee :bangdesk:

Torque does read codes, just not on my M5. The only way I can read my code, or any other OBDII values is with INPA or CarSoft.
