To spray or not to spray!

So I got myself a 92" 325i a few weeks ago. Really happy with her, a few small "goeters" need to be done but nothing major. Sitting and thinking if I should get someone to spray the black plastic bumpers and side skirts white as well. What you guys think? Spray or leave it black :thumbdo:

And anybody out in the Southern Suburbs CT that can do a good job on it for a good price?

i assume the car is white

If you are referring to the bumper I think yes spray it, but leave the beadings black. side skirts as well spray it

At the moment, this is all pics I have of the car. If the meet and greet we planning takes off, then I'll have more :)

Nice old E36! Great looking original. If I were to spray (colour code) the bumpers, I would be a little different! I would go for the 'Euro' look - 'half colour-coded)

Simply because the full colour coded makes this car look heavy and the side sills do not have a 'cover' or kit over them. They look incomplete - and spraying them brings this out.

So, I would spray the upper part of the bumper and leave the bottom and side sills standard.

Here are some examples: The first one has the side sills sprayed and doesn't look as easy on the eye as the bottom car. I think they look a bit 'cleaner' than the fully sprayed bumper and the car looks 'lighter on its feet.'

That car looks great! Personally, I like the 'half colour coding.' And, of course, the side mirrors painted as well. It is less common but that's my personal taste.

Either way, standard, half or fully colour coded, you have a great example of an E36! It is yours to enjoy!

Looking forward to seeing pics!

If memory serves, color coding was an optional extra when your car was built. There was even an acronym for it that the sales people used: CCBM (color code bumpers and mirrors). It became standard when the 328i came out, I think.

Me thinks leave it like it is. As they say, a car can only be original once.

if im not mistaken, the side skirt etc is the same colour of the car underneath. there is also an easy way to get the coat off. not sure if it was using sugar soap. some time ago i came across an article about this.

yes here it is.http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1079803-DIY-E36-GRAY-side-skirts-delete-and-color-match

it is actually some kind of rock protector. hope yours is same as to what im talking about then it be a bit cheaper to fix

my ex E36 looked like yours, had the bumpers, side skirts and mirror caps sprayed white. But left the beading and door handles black.

Thanx guys, I'm really wanting to spray it. Just have to convince the wife.
After the spray u can't necessarily unsprayed It lol. No convincing needed
You can have it soda blasted. Should remove paint and primer without damaging the surface.

My vote is to have it sprayed.

Aaaah, I see you were born in 87" so probably not married, or not as long. I've been married 17 years and have learned the hard way to, RESPECT your wifes wishes!

Going against that has a way of biting you in the ass! And that's besides going to bed hungry (both ways)
