Car looks stunning Esp. Red but I was in the same boat as u a month back well with the choice of car and a buddy of mine insisted I test drive the 320i and 320d and I decided immediately and I took the 320d
Rather go and test drive both and decide what ur happier with.

PS. Never thought I'd own a tractor but she's awesome and I have no regrets

I really am conflicted between the 320i and 320d but most dealers I have gone too won't let me test drive their cars because of my age.

I would possibly consider the 1 Series as well.

I live in Randburg and study at the University of Pretoria so my daily commute is 160km. I currently do it with my dad's Corsa Utility 1.4 Sport and I'm fed up with the crappy power output as well as the 4000rpm rev drone at 120 km p/h. And the Gautrein prices are also going up again in June.

But I really wish I could testdrive both to compare.

What's wrong with the dealerships? I had this crap at audi who refused to let me drive a car I already reserved and had finance approved on, so I told them go to &#^# ... BMW just let me jump in and go (I was 23)

I drove to Alberton <--> PTA daily in my E90 320i LCI, and to be honest the fuel was killing me - it's heavy, very heavy and dangerously slow on the hiways - can never overtake.. Also I need to state BMW admitted to me there are clutch issues on the E90 manuals (I killed 5 in total on 2 E90s) - it overheats in traffic and eventually burns the clutch out regardless of how gingerly you drive it..

My personal opinion would be go look for a 120d - that would suit your needs

Thanks for the info, its definitely a cause for concern
And after having had an E46 318i brake my wallet and my back, I definitely know that a BMW out of motorplan can be a huge problem.

Ok guys so I am leaning towards the tractor cars. :fencelook:
What prices should I be expecting for either a 120d/320d with less than 65000km

Just wish I could test drive the different options :argh:

"Blerrie" stealers :argh::argh::argh::argh:

Take someone older with you to the dealers say he's you dad.

Maybe they would let you drive then :dunno:

If they don't want you to test drive their cars, they're not worthy of your business. :nonono:

This is some different advise, but here goes. Keep driving the crappy Corsa, as you're going to put on lot of miles on it and it won't make a difference to the resale of the car. Or buy a cheap CitiGolf. What you save on diesel on a 320d, you'll spend on maintenance as the mileage clocks up. With traffic and speed cameras (and soon eToll) and the shitty condition of our roads, most people don't get to see 120 in any case.

Then in 2 or 3 years time, when you finish studies, use the money you saved to buy something really nice.

Use it, don't use it...

I would really like to have done that, but it's actually dad's work bakkie. He bought it with locomotive allowance so that he could claim back from the tax but his company has decided to stop this completely and just have a fleet of vehicles on site to book out when someone need it so the corsa has been bought back by the company and in the near future I'll have nothing to drive with then.

This looks alright, but I really dont like those seats :yuck:

Plus 1. Maybe not a CityGolf. Get a polo tdi/1.4i. With the amount of mileage you doing I think it would be more advisable to get a cheap runner.

I hear you out here but I think you may just have had a bad apple.
I have owned 4 E90 320i's. All did daily drives highway and traffic , not a single issue with clutch or overheating and I did lots of mileage with them all.
The known issues with 320s are more engine related.

That 320i sure does have the looks, but if you want power and fuel economy then it’s the wrong choice, I own 2 e90s a 323i and 330d , the 323 is a great car, it has power but nothing to really brag about. Its strong motor with decent economy if you on the highway but Once you get into town the pocket starts to gets empty :thumbdo: for example I use to get 11l/100km with the 323i and get 6.5l/100km with the 330d driving daily to work and back. the only difference is the diesel is a beast of note, the thing sounds like a tractor but moves like a plane.... get something that suites your needs. and remember that the bigger your motor the more your insurance and R1500 is rip off

Just went to see the car. :inlove: A real beaut indeed. Front bumper did have a few scratches but Adam at Northcliff Auto told me they will respray the bumper if I wanted. I can also extend the motorplan for antoher year but then the price would then be R180,000.

There was an Indian oke and his wife looking at the car as well, was quite funny. The husband talked in the usual accent but the wife tried with every bone in her body to gooi a British Accent :roflol:

I will be able to put aR20000 deposit on her.

But what will be, will be.
I have learnt a long time ago to not put my heart on something.

Power is not so much of a concern for me, a fast car will only tempt me and one is only sorry when its too late. Insurance is expensive because of my age.

320i no.

What would a young guy such as yourself want with a low powered yacht sized car?
You will have plenty of time for that when you are older and have a family.

Now you want something a bit more fun or even a bit cheaper, and there are many options out there for that.

I come from a very conservative family so no social live or any gf's for that matter so I tend to spend all my time and attention on the one thing I can: Cars.

Two problems with the 320i: lack of power and high fuel consumption. In traffic you'll average +/-11l/100km. The word overtake does not exist for 320i owners as it's a dangerous thing to do in such a donkey. Find a 320d/120d.
