Tired of being challenged by 135/335 drivers - mods?

Ok here is my take on this

Firstly, if a x35 beats you off the line and you begin to catch up this means that the x35 is stock. Because if it had been a modded one you will not catch it up, easy as that.

So you basically have to improve your driver skills first before modding the car or getting a M-DCT or learning to use a M-DCT's launch control if you have one.

With regards to mods if you at the reef then the problem becomes harder to solve. I'm at the coast and the M3 already has the advantage stock for stock against a x35, so modding becomes easier.

I can't talk for all the tuners out there as i've only got one mod my car:praise:. But with the e9x M3 the most power gained is from the exhaust system, i've got the entire system changed. Meaning no cats, then with that you will want to do the software as they they just compliment each other. As for the induction on the stock car its just a magnificent piece of equipment and changing it only gains you about 5kw at the most, but costs you big time, which isn't worth the money, rather do for a filter change and some intake scoops. As for the motorplan, that's a whole new ball game. It is up to you which way you will want to go about doing it. For me, i'm lucky enough as i have my own workshop and can get the exhaust changed back to stock within an hour if needed.

Finally, i don't want to compare my car's current performance to any x35 as this has be debated to kingdom come. But to give you a idea, it wastes no time in making a stock M3 look stupid and gives a V10 M5 a big fright :roflol:.

P.S Try taking out your M for a blast on a race track, trust me you'll have a new respect for the car. Even at the reef. Best of luck

chip and exhaust on V8M unleashes the demon inside. Quiet a drastic change between stock and above configuration.

M cars are built in a separate factory than all the other BMWs:fencelook:

I heard they do things very "slow" in that factory :fencelook:

Just remember that although the 135i's are quick in a straight line, your M will destroy them in other disciplines. Badly.

Unfortunately, bragging rights only go as far as straight line speed...bang for buck, 135/335 ftw.
As a complete package, M wins hands down.
It's funny how a few years ago, the handling of the 3 series is what made it stand above the other German cars, these days, handling means nothing, its all about straight line speed :fencelook:

Hey Guys, New to the forum but found this thread interesting as I bought my E92 M3 a few months ago after much contemplation.

I think the mods to get started would certainly be a pipe and mapping to unleash some hp. Bang for buck, naturally aspirated cars cost far more per hp then forced induction cars. So expect to pay 4k to 10k for mapping and 10k to 70k for a pipe.

Supercharging would be next and a huge leap in cost if you consider that with SC you would need to add all the supporting parts like brakes, clutch etc.

I have driven more cars then I can remember in search of "the next thrill" and something I have always found is that some cars no matter how they look on paper just talk to you more then others.

So before you all go bashing each other about X35 vs M3 consider that its not always about being the fastest in a straight line or around a track, we are all petrolheads and what's more important is driving a car that talks to you and makes you feel alive within your budget.

I could certainly have spent far less money on a faster car including x35, Evo, STI but they just didn't talk to me in the same way as the M does at this stage in my life.

On the bang for buck side: I know from experience that before I could afford my STI (Let the scooby bashing begin), I found 100 reasons why my WRX was better bang for buck, over the next year I spent 80k trying to turn my WRX into an STI, yes it was faster but it just was not an STI.

When I finally landed up buying my first STI, I realised what I was missing all along. There is something special, something magical in the STI, M, AMG, RS models that the other cars just don't seem to have no matter how much money you throw at them.

Just my 2c - and my first post :)

Nice first post...post some pix of your ride in the showroom...

Since it is your first post you will learn that this thread is not about bashing anyone or anything...thats how the fanatics roll, we will go for a hair here and there but we love the x35 and ///M alike...no harm done here, i dont think. This forum would be boring if we dont have threads like this.

I can tell you this, for me it has never only be about handling in a BMW, it has always been about POWER and the dynamic handling to match. The e46 M3 will remain as the icon for me within the 3 series that satisfied both these fanatical drives in any BMW driver, at the time. The new M3's light was stolen by the arrival of the X35 that brought back the raw (blitz) power...sure it could have come with a LSD, but where would that have left the new ///M3?

Hopefully, the 2013 M3 will give the 3 series the best of both worlds...the return to power and the handling to boast about. :inlove:

i agree except for the RS part

:roflol: The problem with the RS models is they smoke us on pulloff, and by the time we catch up (if we do that is), we are at silly speeds and its no fun anymore.

I have just changed from an S3 to a 135i. The 135i is better in every single department except grip.

At the end of the day tho, Audi owners have to deal with Audi Service (or lack thereof) :thumbdo:

@QuickM - The M3 is a great car, but I agree with Twinz ... the x35i is just the better buy imo. Enjoy it :)

Getting my M chipped with full exhaust + decat turned it into a different car. Power is more linear and loses the (slight)"choppiness" it has through the rev range when stock. After the mods it felt like I was driving a true M car. Mated with DCT it pulled harder, sounded better and was a true beast.
Even if just for personal satisfaction I'd recommend getting it worked on, definitely not getting your complete moneys worth with it bone-stock.

well i have software and exhaust on my m3 and i have not lost to a 135 or 335 since the mods

before you guys come down on me, the x35 modded are quick but after 170 they start looking for parking space against the v8

being able to drive a v8 to its best abiltys is not easy, but once you have learnt the car it turns into a different animal
