I think things are getting very heated here. Every has SOME valid points and not all of it is.
What we wanted to know is WHY people don't attend? Some have answered and some have been very way word.
Things that need to be addressed ....
1) Friendliness and cliques...
- from the events committee side of things, we can our selves are always available to chit chat with anyone and everyone and really do go out to try and meet all those attending.
However, we can't force guy to not hang around with whom they comfortable. Everyone is diverse in terms of personality and what they likes and dislikes are. As Jadiel has said, those groups are formed from those likes and or dislikes.
I would urge new guys to come forward to any of the staff or even just come forward and try out another social event and then draw up your final conclusion.
Please keep in mind as well, the mid night run was HUGE, and a lot of guys that attended were not even fanatics. Painting everyone with one brush should not be done, give our members a second chance
2) Type of events (GP area)
With regard to events, we really have our work cut out for us in the back rooms. I'm not too sure if you recall, but at the end of last year, we asked for feedback. Guy suggestions and other comments were that we need to step up and stop having parkoffs aka show and shine and ice cream meets. They want to drive to areas 200kilos away or futher...
They want go karting and paintball etc.
We listened to those suggestions and act on them and are continously discussed amongst event Co ordinator's.
Let's get something that basic explained here. Events are not just chilled or performance events. They also divided into PAYING and NON PAYING events. We really do try to cater for everyone by offering the widest variety at different times.
IE. JAN - Ice cream meet - Chilled non paying event... Jan is tough month for most and we take that into account. Ice cream run also gives those that work during the day, a chance to come out at night and have a nice social event.
Again perfect example is RIYO, and I don't think he sucked up to anyone to become a valuable member of the events committee. From the word go, he started pulling his weight.
Feb - Cars and coffee - NON paying....again taking into consideration that people are still picking up from Dec and Jan. We hold it at a mall so that if you wanna bring your families and have some lunch, it's also possible.
MARCH - PAINTBALL - PAYING EVENT - Cancelled.
1st paying event and we cancelled it. Not even 10 names on the list.
BMW fanatics attended the BMW DAY and really we had a range of guys with different cars from different back grounds and racial demographics....but we all really got along well...on that what's app group and at the event.
The same Applies to the BMW FEST...we applied the same system and had much more volunteers. 2 of the members who were part of the who insisted there cars are not up to scratch and not showroom. I swore them...saying we don't care...what matters is that YOU are there AND you enjoy yourself. I was extremely happy to see them there and it was 1st time meeting as well. Thanks for coming through chaps.
With regard to location, we have heard your calls, and the next event will be in PTA or close. We been shifting events all over the place and I would like to thank those guys that drive the 40- 50ks to attend and have a lukker day.
Type of events - we will try our best to accommodate everyone through the year, attend what you feel with comfy with, but also try and break away from your comfort zone and join in on the others events and see what's it all about.
All cars are urged to attend...be a show car, your race car, or just your daily which is dear to you because you bought it with your hard earned cash. We wanna meet and greet, hear your back stories and memories with your cabs. We wanna be there to give advise and take advise. That was one of the reasons this forum was formed.
I hear the guys complaints as well about how it was 4 or 5 years back, I wasn't around then and can't comment on it, but yes there has been some change. Let us address those concerns in a different thread...that is something which has been on my head as well...
I do hope that we use this thread to move forward and build some better foundations for epic events.
Hoping to see a lot of PTA and JHB at next months event. We hoping to have some info up by the weekend.
