Thanks gents.

Over the weekend replaced all the coils and suppressors:

This as really improved the idle smoothness, though I have noticed that the idle does become a bit more lumpy after the car has been driven in stop and go traffic.

A while back I picked up a set headlights from a 750iL as my headlights are in a bit of a state and there were in little bit less of a state. Would rather prefer smileys, but these have the added advantage of not having adjuster motors. Getting rid of the adjusters is a good thing as they are absolute garbage on the e34's, luckily they sorted this on the e39....uh not.

One of the headlights before:

After some grinding, polishing and cleaning:

After reassembly and applying lamin-x:

Fitment will happen after I have stripped and checked if anything is missing for the install.

Nice Work Sank, looking all good.

Tell me how you grind and polish the headlights? Like to try that on a few of my cars.

Keep it up!

polishing glass is a similar process to polishing stone... finer 'grit' is used till eventfully a very fine cutting paste is used to polish (usually diamond based)

not a DIY job because you need to remove alot of material to get rid of chips and you need specialized equipment

Indeed, the work was done by a company that makes lenses so they have all the equipment to grind and polish glass.

Sorted out a couple of niggles I have been putting off during the week.

Redid the fan switch wiring for my electric fan conversion:

While I was at it I replaced the fan switch with a 80/88C one.

Had a knocking noise from the front left suspension, have had this before so knew it came form the shock in the strut. So I removed the strut and re-did the installation of the shock:

And I replaced the waterpump pulley as the old one was cracked:

Thanks for watching.

It had a viscous fan before, but I converted it to electric a while back. (I just redid some of the wiring as I was not happy with how I did it before)

Well it is not that involved, the hardest part is getting a fan and getting it to fit.
Though on the e39 there might actually be OEM electric fans that will fit on the radiator. All the e34's came with viscous primary fans and electric aux fans. So I had to make a plan with a different fan. The 540i has a pretty massive raditor so that also causes some problem with fan fitment.

This is of course the option of adding an additional fan, some also go for the option of just removing the viscous and then replacing the fan switch with a lower temperature one.

If you need help feel free to give me a shout, I am more than willing to give you a hand.....well not a physical hand you are a bit far away

I've just replaced the viscous clutch on mine a month or so ago so not looking at doing the conversion just yet. But I would like to at some point as its a longer lasting solution...

These days I'm probably alot closer than you might think

But don't you need constant airflow over your intercooler? I thought thats the reason they fitted a viscous fan to the manual diesels.

Hmmm okay thats a fair point.... I guess as the viscous is turned by the engine there is constant airflow when I'm sitting in traffic... But then how does it work on newer diesels that no doubt use an Electric fan?
