can we have pics with the oil cooler installed ?

Yes, yes, will get there.

Once the Megajolt was installed and tidied it was off to Ross at RBTS Racing to map the ignition. The results were fantastic. The biggest gain from the Megajolt wasn't the 17% power gain but the ability to potter along at low speed while running a mental camshaft. The Megajolt can cope and advance as needed. So much better than a Dizzy which had no hope.

Clever little widget that converts the mechanical speedo drive into a digital signal.

Here is the trigger wheel the Megajolt uses, running off the crank pulley.

And finally here are the results from the mapping session with Ross. Bloody marvelous. :D

More to come shortly.

The next step was to tidy the engine bay!

We painted and cleaned and wired and tidied, fitted a catch can, silicon hoses for the MAP sensor, oil cooler pipes and shorter oil filter. Fixed the grill and made a Mad Max style slot for the oil cooler pipes.

I to illustrate the amount of work that went into tidying the engine bay...

Those of you with Eagle Eyes may have noticed the dip in Torque on the dyno charts at around 2200rpm. Back to old man Rosen to fiddle with emulsion tubes. Was running too rich at low revs. Nice torque gain from 1000rpm to 4000rpm.

During our runs around Joburg we found the 3.44 final drive a bit long, topping out at a limited 175kph. So we swapped it out for a 3.7 for more acceleration and a max speed of about 160kph. This meant engine out. So while we were in there... might as well put a beautifully welded Maniflow LCB exhaust manifold on for MOAR POWAH!!

Awesome build.

I'm a huge fan of the patina. The car looks great.

Where did you get the oil cooler from? Is that what they call a 10row? And how did you fabricate the line's?

Oil Cooler from UK but www.hot4cold.co.za stocks. Yes, 10 row or perhaps 13.

The pipes were made up by International Race Supplies in Buccleuch.

The sandwich plate for the oil cooler also has a thermostat built in.

Here's a shot of me at 175kph looking terrified. Was chasing two Porsche' up the R59. The noise from this little car at that speed is utterly insane. Straight cut gears screaming, exhaust bellowing.

SCREEEEEWHEEEEEEE!!

BRAAAAP BRAAAAAAP BRAAAAAAAA!!

The Porsche in front of me kept looking in his rear view mirror with this "What In The Name Of All That's Fucking Holy Is This Thing Behind Me!!" look on his face.

Yes, that's an actual look people get when the Rat is on their ass.

If you don't bring that thing to the next track I am calling BS, and all this is just very good photoshop skills.

:praise: a lot of knowledge and time went into this build. Epic stuff.

Can I be a passenger to take a vid next time a Porsche tries to take you on?

So this brings us nearly up to date. Here is a gratuitous shot of a clean and beautiful little wheel.

2016-04-17 11.59.34_2219458818.jpg

One of the last things to do was to tidy up the dashboard area and make it useful.

2016-05-06 16.15.02_5707077607.jpg

Seeing as we had gutted the little car, we needed somewhere to put stuff like keys and cans of beer. Luckily we spotted this old SADF ammo satchel in a market close to the Free State.

2016-05-06 16.15.24_8156017898.jpg

Seeing WTF is going on with the car is also a good idea so we added an Acewell Digidash. It has a cool bar graph for revs and a load of idiot lights as well as a host of other info like Water Temp and trip meter and so on.

2016-05-06 16.15.08_9782694135.jpg

As we had planned to track the car, we also needed switches! Lots of glorious switches! From left to right is Kill Switch, Starter, Ignition, Fuel Pump and Instruments.

2016-05-06 16.15.44_6254530516.jpg

Some groovy plasma gauges to with more information, Oil Temp, Oil Pressure, AFR and Volts. All very important. A nice function is that they go red when you put your lights on

2016-05-06 16.15.58_6816406538.jpg

Here we have a Bright Lights! shot of the cockpit.

2016-05-06 16.16.25_642219572.jpg

And zoomed out a little.

Note the re-purposed leather belts. Instead of using rivets we used belts to absorb rattles. Works well.

2016-05-06 16.17.23_4512062151.jpg

Evan tidied up the boot area, I think he painted the boot lid to match the Willard battery! :clapper: Note the insane electric fuel pump, something like 40 gallon a minute. This is why we use a fuel pressure regulator!

Sexy custom battery strap too.

So, in December I bought this

Not being able to leave things as they are, it was quickly pulled apart.

For all it's badassery, the mini has always had a kak exhaust.

Hmmmm.

2016-02-08 14.47.17_9636892671.jpg

That's kak.

So, we take 2x Harley Davidson Screamin' Eagle 2 mufflers, a Rat Rod Mini, a TIG Welder, some stainless 50mm piping and gently blend.

et voilà!!

All the F***ing Badassery you can possibly handle.

BRAAAAAP!!!!! At idle it even sounds like a Harley. :evilish:

Evan has decided the welds are not good enough, so off it comes and it's time for a polish and cleanup!!
